Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Can anyone identify this lock?

Postby gostone » 6 Feb 2007 23:07

I obtained this wafer lock, it seems like an automotive lock, but I am not sure.
On one side is written CPC and stamped #22418
on the other side is just 4 digits 1105.

Any info appreciated

Not an Auto....probably an alarm box keyswitch or camlock.
Probably Silca ALP4 or ALP4R profile. 6 Disc tumbler. 5 depths.
profile is similar to old Nissan/Datsun double side keyways.

I guess I should have read the whole post first. It is for a gas cap.
CPC made gas caps in the late 90's. 5 spacings, 3 depths. EZY CUT blank #C217.

No, this has the double D prep and is held in place by a nut, not spring clip.

Probably gas cap like was posted.

Here's what the GM door cylinders look like

I don't recall seeing any auto locks that are threaded like that or have that thick ( deep) of a face cap. I believe that it is a lock from a tool box that is intended for outdoor use.

D DD

Postby raimundo » 7 Feb 2007 10:07

that flat side is one half of the double D mount, and that is not automotive. while the dustcover over the key would seem to indicate automotive. in fact, the dustcover indicates that its meant to be an outdoor lock. Double D for those who are new here is the discription of a variant of the D hole, not much used anymore, this is a hole that has a flat side like the letter D and a double d has two flat sides. Automotive locks are usually in a more specialize body made of diecast zinc alloy, and often held on by spring clips. The double D is made for more varieties of applications, and is held on by a pressure washer and a nut. You will want to Use your automotive tensor, to hold back the dustcover, but remember not to apply tension directly to the dustcover because it is not attached to the plug, my guess is that inside are wafer tumblers.
