Getting the pin # for programming transponders

Postby 77luke » 11 Feb 2007 4:12

At the shop I work at, anytime someone comes in and needs a new transponder programmed that requires a pin code, we have to send a fax to another company to get the pin. This can take up to a few hours to get and also doesn't include all vehicles- does anyone know of a way around having to go through another company to get these? How does the company get them?

Also, on average- it costs around $15.00 for a pin number- do you know of a company that is cheaper? Thanks.
If you always do what you have always done- you will always get what you have always gotten!

Dude, this looks like something the Mods might move to Advanced Forums.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
That said, place I used to work had a decoder box they could plug in and get info (on GM)

generally this might be considered advanced, but i'm pretty sure there is no sneaky way to do this.
we get the number through the dealer.

Deaoler or code service are the easy ways if you do not want to purchase more equipment.

It depends on what kind of car it is. There is some PIN retrieval software on the market already for some cars and lots more being developed. There is also software that will bypass the need of a PIN on some vehicles.

What kind of cars are you talking about?

This isnt the place to ask really, try one of the trade forums which should give you better advice (not that there has been any bad advice on here),
