So, I've decided to make my own ultimate pickset. All the picks will be made out of hacksaw blades, street sweeper bristles, or Brickstrap, and I'll be making a case for them out of a nice large piece of black fabric i got from Walmart for 91¢.
So far, heres what It's gonna contain
Hooks
- 11x Falle
- 1x Peterson Deep Reach
Rakes - 3x Falle Sawtooth
- 8x HPC compu Gen
- 4x King and Queen
- 3x Snake
- 1x Peterson Sawtooth
Balls - 1x 1/2 Ball
- 1x Full Ball
- 1x Snowman
- 1x 1/2 Snowman
- 1x small 1/2 ball
Diamonds - 1x Small 1/2
- 1x Large 1/2
- 1x HPC
- 2x Deforest
Bagota - 1x 1 peak
- 1x 2 peak
- 1x 3 peak
- 1x hook
Other - 2x Double Wafer (double Sided)
- 1x Knife bypass
- 1x Sesamee Decoder
- 5x Warded
- 1x Dimple (double Sided)
- 1x Plug spinner
- 3x auto picks
- 1x concept auto pick
- ?x medeco picks
All of the picks will be made out of hacksaw blades, The 5 warded picks and double wafer picks will be made out of brickstrap, and the knife bypass, dimple and sesamee decoder will be made out of junior hacksaw blades. The bagotas will of course be made out of Street sweeper bristles.
I've already started the pickset. If you think of anything to add, please let me know, and as always comments are welcome

Agreed. Tension wrenches, though often over looked, are just as important as your picks.
I would suggest:
30 Standard L Wrenches
-10 wide
-10 normal
-10 thin
30 Twist Flex wrenches
-10 wide
-10 normal
-10 thin
5 Tulip tension wrenches
4 Falle adjustable wrenches
5 Flat Saw-tooth tension wrenches
1 Circular tension tool
1 Feather touch wrench
4 Double Prong tension wrenches
-3 Solid
+1 wide
+1 normal
+1 thin
-1 adjustable wire tension wrench
1 Schlage everest tension wrench
1 Dragon Wrench
How's that for starters

unbreakable, i think you may need a bit more fabric for that case. or use a suitcase
you've put together a decent kit so far, i'm sure others will add to it though.

Apparentely when typing add I accidentally typed A$$, hence the random Donkey in the middle of that sentence.
I have tons of fabric, .6 of a meter by 60 inches, all for 91 cents, so Im set there

All the Falles and HPC compu gens are roughed out, as are all of the diamonds and all but one of the balls.
Plus, The dimple, knife tool and double sided wafer picks are already done (polished and everything ).
Hope school gets a bit easier, maybe then I'll have some more time to work.

Any lock pick set should include a few key extractors
I can understand the enthusiasm for having a large set but the reality is 95 % of your picking will be done with the same 3 or 4 picks

I agree completely. The thing is, how do you know what those 3 or 4 picks will be?

For me it is the diamond, full rake, deforest, and a large hook.
I have been experimenting with the king and queen sized for American padlocks and many unusual patterns I designed. I do believe in continually expanding the inventory of picks and I have started laying out the Majestic computer generated patterns, more as a test of my ability to make picks.
I was not trying to discourage your attempt at such a set, GO FOR IT , just also make a small set that has what you need for most applications. You can always bring out the big one for when there is a challenging lock cause it sounds like your going to need a tool box for them all

less is more
instead of trying to make every pick under the sun
make the picks that you are comfortable with
for me, it's
rocker/falle
hook/feeler
diamond
rake

I agree that there are only a few picks you ever really use in practice. For me it's a short hook, bogota, and sometimes a half diamond or snake rake.
BUT! You guys are forgetting that half the fun of pick making is making the picks for your collection. Pick collecting is great fun. Exotic picks - though perhaps not terribly useful - are very entertaining.
Just ask a person not familiar with lockpicking about picks. They'll like the exotic ones, with fine metals, weird designs and shapes, things of that nature. They would never think a simple short hook would be the most effective
