I started a few months ago, so 15. I wish I had started earlier, and I would if I knew where my stepdad's picks were and about LP101.

I started a month ago I am 21. But I have always been interested in it since I seen spy movies. But I never thought it was that easy, untill now.

I started on toy handcuffs. The ones with the lever on the side. My cousin and I would cut off the lever and use a nail to open them. (I think I still have them somewere)

Well I'm glad to see how many new people are participating. I believe this question has been asked before, but the responses were from different people.
I started 3 years ago at the age of 17. I don't believe it has to do with age. Just understanding, knowledge, patience, and practice.
I started using hangers to open privacy door locks at the age of 6. Also started bypassing door knob locks with a credit card around the same age, I was always curious about lockpicking. Its interesting it took me till I was 17 to actually get a pick set and start picking.

At age 13 I picked up a copy of Locks, Picks and Clicks at a gun show.
I tried to use make shift apparatus such as dental picks with not much success.
I wish I had thought to put a grinder to hacksaw blades. (No YouTube back then.)
At age 22 I picked up a lockpick set at a spyshop. (No e-commerce back then.)
At age 31 I had a crisis where I realized I was getting older and still had so many things I wanted to learn. I stayed in a few nights and learned to pick pin tumbers.
My 15 month old and I pick locks together. He copies me. He'll stick the pick in the keyway and move it around. I mounted an S&G combination on a piece of wood and he likes to play with that. Last week I used a shim to open a combination lock and then I decoded it with an otosccope. So now he likes to peer into locks with an otoscope.

The first time I got into lock picking was in highschool. I went into the locker room and saw some little grade eight trying to open a masterlock with a set of bran new picks (I was in grade 11 at the time) and rip off some guys stuff. I promised not to kick his ass or get him expelled if he gave me he picks.

He handed over the picks without a track of embarassment and ran for it. I put the picks in my pocket and forgot about them, when I got home, I remebered them and started picking locks, now, I am a professional! :D

Not quite, but if it haddent been for the grade 8, I never would have been able to take part in this wonderfull hobby! :D
