Picking Combination Locks

Postby Marcus8880 » 15 Feb 2007 13:02

I've been able to pick older Buffalo combo locks with a moulded floppy disk metal sheet. But it's not thin enough to fit in between other locks... Any suggestions for easy to get, extremly thin pieces of metal? Thanks

combo locks can not be picked are you sure you are not refering to shimming?

I'm pretty sure he's talking about shimming.

You can use an aluminum can to make shims. Here's a thread: viewtopic.php?t=10991

Most people advise not to put the shim in directly above the locking ball, they advise inserting a shim from the front and turning it toward the inside. I disagree though, the only way I've ever had success is by inserting the shim on directly above the locking ball and pulling up and down on the shackle while I'm pushing down on the shim.

If your not taking about shimming and u mean decoding. used on locks with 3 or 4 separate dials with 0-9 on them try cutting down a feeler gauge.

All the best

actually aluminum cans are just as thick or thicker than the metal from a floppy disc.
The metal flap is actually the better material to work with because it's a lot stronger than aluminum.. if this particular person is shimming and comes across a lock that he can't shim with either of these materials it might (most likely) be an anti shim lock.

BTW I measured the metals and they both came out at .019 to .022 of an inch thick.

try using the metal in those white magnetic detectors that are in everything you buy at the big box stores...........they vary in thickness but you can use the one as shim stock in a jamb.........the other sizes are rigid but really thin.............blackfoot

I've heard this too. Ya, decoding is another option, but I suppose that's a whole different story and doesn't belong in this specific forum. As far as shimming, I haven't had the time or opportunity to try them yet, but I have heard good things about the decoded metal slices attached to the backs of DVDs, CD, electronics, ect ect.
