I read a discussion that involved bumpit, zeke79, and Bioniccreeper03, and I thought the idea presented in that thread was a good one. I like the idea of someone creating a bunch of bump key templates. That way one would not need to search so hard for spacing and other measurments. If someone was enthused enough about that idea they might be able to create a template for the waster set they have at http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... ProdID=634
I can understand why it might be a bad idea to make bump key assembly so easy, so if this idea sucks go ahead and chastise me.

Man, you're lucky some people even KNOW what a file is, let alone how to use one.
These days, when you say file, 50% of people will think you mean something on a computer, 30% of people MAY think you mean a file cabinet, and the other 20% may know what you mean, but only 10% of them will ever have used one.
The world has changed, and it only took 40 years to do it.

I would have to agree. Could someone actually came up with a few templates for making your own? Might help push a few people towards the right kinda file. And that was the original point to this thread.

No kidding, the price they're asking for in that bump key set is way overpriced. Which is why I figured templates might be nice for filing purposes. Heck, if no one feels like whipping up templates, I'd be more than willing to negotiate a price for a bump key set that is equivilant to the one I originally posted.
Let's see, 25 cents a blank and 27 blanks comes to 6.75. For electricity + time spent I'd start my hagglin' at 20 bucks plus shipping.
Geez, I should put this in buy/sell. I'll go do that I guess... But to the point of this thread, maybe someone could whip up some templates. If not, and I manage to get this bump key set I'll see if I can make some templates I guess - least I can do since I'm the fellow asking about it.

I believe templates for a key blank could be useful.
But.. I also think such a template will be difficult to use, and it would be far easier to use a lock cylinder and #9 pin.

Regarding that set of bumpkeys from lockpicks.com, they're described on the site as having been cut for the minimal movement method to be used, and it says that they contain features that may go unnoticed at first glance. I contacted the company to clarify if that meant that the shoulders and tips had been altered, and they replied that the keys had been fully modified to bump locks with no further alterations necessary.
I can't verify that, but it would differentiate this set from the depth key sets commonly found on ebay, and may explain the high pricetag. I've ordered from them a couple of times, and they've been great to do business with, but you would need to send in the documentation they mention to be able to order their bumpkeys.

Question: Why a Schlage E, if the Universal Schlage key (included in their 30 key set,) will cover most SC locks - including E? I can see having a dedicated C in both 5 and 6 pin lenghths, but is E so common or unusual, that an original E profile is worth having? I haven't found that many E's in my travels.
