ok i am 16 and, at school, have access to a whole range of tools in the workshop for making picks with, i'll have to remain low-key (key, hehehe) but if i am asked for a use of the thing i am making i don't want to say "oh well its a lock pick" cuz i'll get shat on. any tips or cover-ups? bear in mind that im in england where having lock picks means i can be charged with being "equiped to break the law" or "equiped to break and enter" or somthing like that.
please help.
Cheers
Matt

try not doing things that you aren't allowed to do at school.... save your pennies and buy a kit online

thnx 4 the quick reply, but, if i order online (like i intended to do) i would first need 2 nick my parents credit card to use (which im not keen to do). and then i would get a parcel at home from "lock-picks-r-us" - which my parents have already pysched about coz i put forward the idea of doing lockpicking a a hobbey, to keep me outta trouble. it was a shame that they thought that i was going to use that hobby to steal.

one other idea would be to order it to a friends house and collect it. but then, i'd need to do that for all my locks aswell, and some of these locks are chunky, people might start asking questions.
any other idea?
thx again.

Call them "mechanical probes" and lay off the abbreviations when you post here.

You *really* should try and do this with your parent's knowledge, because you just know that they're going to find out in the end.
If you must, and I mean that your parents have outright put their foot down...
Ask a mate who's parents have a credit card, just pick someone who's parents are really laid back. Give them the cash, they order the picks, and it gets delivered to your mate's house, then you can just pick it up whenever you want.
Don't steal their credit card - it'll come up as an outgoing cost on their bank statement and they'll eventually figure out it was you - then you're really in the sh*t.
As for locks, just say you're interested in finding out how they work etc; it will be mostly true at any rate.
You could buy a lever lock and make your own picks out of bicycle spokes - very few tools needed aside from pliers and a file (Read my guide in the locks section)

hehehe, thanks , that might work, though i realy don't know what images they'll think up when i say probes. i think ill go realy low key, and hid in a corner of the workshop. AHA!thank you so much, just gave me an idea, ill just wander around and pretend to be working on somthing commletely legit then, ill just work on the picks and pocket them asap.
cheers

at the end of the day you'll end up losing the trust of your parents and teachers. your best bet is to read this thread and try and convince your parents that this is a safe, legal and fun sport.
viewtopic.php?t=18766
also print DB's intro to sport lockpicking. sit down with your parents and go through it with them.

(refering to illsions post)
yeah, hence the reason for not wanting to nick anything, i've had it done to me 2 many times to do it. besides tha fact that its downright stupid.
that is a very good idea with the lax parents .... ill investigate into that.
in the mean time i'll have access to more metal than i can shake a wooden leg at, but i do have a bicycle shop nearby.
i have all the templates posted on the site, and bicycle spokes will be the right width? if so thanks very much, it will save me alot of time. i have until sunday morning to get the spokes, i think ill have to nip out and get some.

its legal to own picks BUT having them outside for no reason will get you in trouble. having them out after dark for no reason will get you nicked for going equiped with intent.
after reading your other posts im starting to think you will take them out(as you've already said in a previous thread).

the only reason i would have them out side is when i travel to and from school (london - yorkshire) and that is what i am most worried about, i go by train.
got some as a present from a friend (which is why i joined this site, because he pointed this site out and got me interseted in lock picking). but then they got taken off me.
now i am vary aware of the dangers of having them out and about.

Why would you take them to and from school?
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

it is legal to own picks.
if your acting suspicious, walking the streets, already known to the police or you just don't have a valid reason to have them in your possesion then they will nick you.
