Street sweeper bristles.

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Street sweeper bristles.

Postby m3ph15t0 » 25 Jan 2007 0:32

could anyone please post the dimensions height and width wise of these street sweeper bristles? I would like to make a tension wrench in the style of kaotik, but I don't have access to that type of material, so I need the dimensions to know what I'm goin for.

LOL.. You can find street sweeper bristles by keeping an eye out on the side of the road after its been swept as the odd bristle tends to break off...Its probably not a good idea to chase after street cleaners trying to grab at the bristles if you value your hands!!

Or go to a local 99 cent store or Home Depot and get a small drain snake. The material is the same size and better for making picks.

My two cents......

m3ph15t0, You can also use the wider of the two windshield wiper inserts, but you will have to shave the edges off to an 1/8".

If your making the double prong tension wrench then do the same as above, but once the 90 degree bends are made you will need to shave the edges of both pieces to fit in a majority of locks.

Which wrench were you going to make?

I live in Lithuania, and it's difficult to find sweeper bristles here, and I thought of alternative way.
Is bristles in the chimney cleaning brush the same? If so, it would be easier to find. These brushes look like that:

looks like it

yeah, they look a lot like the same thing. if the dimension is not the same, it could be close enough to work I think.

I was in the store today, and got an opportunity to touch these brushes. But, I realised that I can bend the bristle with my bare fingers, is that the same with street sweeper bristles? Or should I look for something more rigid?

i've had decent luck with hacksaw blades.
It's a simple question Doctor, would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs?!

you can bend a street sweeper bristle with your fingers if it's more than 2 inches long.

i've had terrible luck with street sweeper bristles personally. i've found dozens and they are always corroded and brittle. i guess maybe that's why they broke off in the first place.

i use drain snakes for tension wrenches and shutter hold-opener thingies. for picks that don't need any bending, i like hacksaw blades.

for this kind of thing though it's best to make a bunch of variations and then pick your favorite.

I found a chimney cleaning brush Like the one above..

And it just bends when I put tention on it..

Are they ok? Am I just using too much tention??

I have been using a bent screwdriver, I messed up and grinded it too small but it works some what..

Thanks

i like for my tension tools to have a little bend to them because it stops me from overtensioning when i'm getting frustrated. but if it's bending significantly under light tension than it probably is too soft.
