read the stuff again, you must have missed something. I personally do not think paperclips are a good bet, you might want to try to make a pick of better material, theres threads on that too. If you really want to learn it, you will figure it out, have you looked at some of the animations on how stuff works or greg millers site. Nobodys gonna take you by the hand any more than what is already given here, perhaps its patience that you lack, patience is an important asset in picking. :) I wish you luck.

you will never pick either of those locks with paperclips....
I highly suggest reserving paperclips for what they do best... holding paper together and possibly opening a jammed cd-drive.

Yeah, paper clips are best served for paper clipping. I suggest you just save up some money for a set.

wow talk about jumping in at the deep end. i wouldn't recommend anyone start on an abus lock as there first locks. or anyone use paper clips some to think of it.

Best best is to save up for a cheap set from www.southord.com i started on the 4 piece set but ide recommend a few more than that. get your self -
-half diamond
-couple of different rakes (Snake, batman and rifle)
-couple of different hooks (Long and short)
-& and a couple of twisted tension tools

All the best

Can't agree more. Ditch the ABUS ( ), buy some picks (a 4 piece will do in the beginning), get a $5 QuikSet deadbolt, read http://www.gregmiller.net/locks/mitguide/, and then try to get started. Good luck, hope things go better..

If you want to use paperclips untill you'll buy some picks, try some cheap locks, maybe chinese ones...Tri-cycle or tri-circle would be fine....You can't pick an abus diskus from the first time with paperclips. Also look on YouTube and Metacafe.
And another thing:have patience.

Many people on this board will say that the Tri-circle can be quite a swine to pick - they are often infested with security pins (sometimes all top pins are spools/mushrooms). This seems to vary from lock to lock, they seem to vary the types and number of pins used.

There are others on this site who will say the tri-circle is an easy pick, and it is, once you have mastered security pins.

That said, the tri-circle is in my opinion NOT a good lock to learn to pick security pins - it has such sloppy tolerances that it does not show you the characterisic feel and behavior of the spools as 'clearly' as a better machined lock.

The tri-circles certainly do provide an interesting picking challenge (especially the iron ones) and until you get the hang of them they can be very tricky!

They are vulnerable to a simple bypass, but I do not think it can be discussed here.

Given it contains security pins, like the Abus, the Tri-circle may not be the best place to start.

A cheap deadlock, such as a kwickset mentioned above, that can be easily repinned would be a better choice.

Hope that helps,

...Mark
