new homemade tension/torque wrench

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

new homemade tension/torque wrench

Postby ridderhenck » 31 Jan 2007 19:18

Hi everybody, this is my first serious posting about something I made today,a homemade tension/torque wrench.

When I started picking I soon found that a pick is as important as a tension/torque wrench.I found out the HARD way about the amount of torque by breaking a tension/torque wrench  I really liked that one but as I told in one of my other postings,I read a lot and I really like the John Falle tension/torque tools, because of the grip it has and obviously the feel with the lock.

So today I was thinking about a Falle design doing the dishes, yeah when I do the dishes my thoughts definitely are somewhere else :D

Then all of a sudden I saw a pie fork,it has 3 teeth and the one on the left was getting smaller towards the end.

I took a pair of pliers and bent the top of the two remaining teeth just a little in a 90 degree angle after I broke of the most right tooth.

And yes, somebody was very happy with me at that moment

It really works like a charm.I know the material is not superhard but that is why I used it,when I started picking I used to much tension/torque and with this forktension/torque wrench knowing that the material is less tough then the average tension/torque wrench,it makes you think about the amount of tension/torque used on picking a lock.

I,m sorry that there are not pictures yet but no worries in time they will.

I think you all can picture in your mind what I have done and why.

I hope I contributed with this item and maybe it will work for you as well as it does for me.

Happy picking

I made a split tensor by using a tin snips to split a wide wiper stiffener the long way from the front, and bending and shaping it, I sent that one recently to some guy in calif. and like a lot of interesting bits I have sent to various people it sank without a trace.
