Guys! could someone please help me pick my new combination type lock for my laptop? I just bought it several days ago and when i was trying to change its combination(original was 0000) to 1326, it didnt work. What's worse was that now it wont open if i used the original combination. I tried guessing and started from 0001 but i havent got time to go through with it.. I followed the instructions that if u wanna change the combinaion, u have to press on the button on the side and release it when u have entered your new combination. please help me unlock it, i only used it for an hour since i bought it and now i have to bring with me my laptop whenever i go to the restroom when im having coffee. thanx guys!

You need to host pics on a hosting site like photobucket.com then copy the links that gives you to your post,
To be honest in this case the best we are goign to tell you is try each number it should only take you 10 mins if that,
The other methods could be searched on here but as we dont as of now know if this is your laptop or not we couldnt possably post them here for you to make it easy,

Actually, with 4 numbers it will likely take an hour or so to go through all possible combinations. With three wheels you can do it in 6 min. Now given that there's a 50/50 chance you'll get it in the first half rather than the last half, you can cut the average down to about 30 minutes on a 4 wheel.
However... do yourself a favor and start at 1900 and work up. It's pretty common to use a year for a 4 wheel combo, and the most relevant years to most people are in the 1900-2006 range. Also, since it will only take a couple seconds to do it, try each possibility of all four numbers the same (ie: 1111, 2222, etc). That's not all that uncommon, and for the 2 secs it takes to try, it might save you a whole lot of trial and error.
I once spend almost 5 minutes running through a 3 wheel lock only to discover the combo was 888. That's a kick in the teeth when that happens.

Personally i would put in the combo you thought you had set it to and then rotate that around the 9 positions to see if you set it onn the wrong plane,
I would then try that combo with ach niumber slightly changed as youve only likely knocked one number,
Your of course correct DB i mistaskeingly read it was a 3 digit combo,

cant you feel the wheels as in use a feeler between the wheels and find the notch and decode it that way?

try adding one number higher to each number then one number lower than you original starting numbers that you thought you put in an see if that helps..............1234 1235 1233 but write them on paper so you know which ones you've tried.

On some you can, yes. Get something thin enough and try to feel for a difference in shape whilst turning the wheels. I've had some success with this, but I often it's faster to brute-force the combination.

This type of problem is actually what started my interest in locks. Way back in 6th grade the library drop box was locked with a three wheel lock. The librarian took the lock off, and was fussing with it, trying to change the combination, when it locked and wouldn't open. She gave the lock to me to try and open, because she thought I would like the puzzle. Turned out that lock taught me how to open most wheel locks and to this day I am grateful to her for giving me that little challenge!
So, if you are truly interested in picking locks and doing it for a hobby, then enjoy the puzzle and tell us how you fare!

Lets kill this thread,
I suspect the laptop either got given back to its rightful owner or the op has found his info on one of the other less ethical sites,

That's funny- when I was in 5th grade or so, my grandpa had an old 4 digit combo lock that he didn't know the combination for. I ran through all the possible combinations until I had tried each one- didn't realize you needed to push the shakle in a bit and then pull out with each combo change. Eventually got it - and that was when I began to be interested in locks. I still remember the combo- 1962.
If you always do what you have always done- you will always get what you have always gotten!

i've opened these and i would never trust my laptop to one. i can rip one off a laptop with a small flat head screw driver in less then 15 seconds and not damage or scratch the laptop in any way, all you will have left is a table full of gears and scrap metal from your cheap laptop lock. I have opened them for customers in my shop and on site using the same method of a small flat head screw driver, jam it in between two numbers and twist, once the casing cracks open a tiny bit jam the screw driver in the back side and twist hard, every gear will start popping out use a second small flat head to speed things up if you want or work it with the screw driver you are holding and pull the cable with your free hand, this thing will pop off before you know it.
I guess line #5 of my signature explains the rest.

If there is a shackle, pulling on it to bind the wheels will narrow down your options by a ton. Just feel for which numbers bind and those will be your choices. If you can get say 4 numbers to bind on each wheel, then you can solve it in a matter of minutes.
