Thin metal tubing.

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Thin metal tubing.

Postby Poacher » 26 Feb 2007 11:23

(This is my second post and I'm praying its in the right place.)

Can anyone think of a source of metal tubing about 4mm in diameter?

Only thing that has come to my mind is car brake pipe, but I'm not sure what sizes it comes in.

I need some short lengths for a project I'm working on, commercially available stuff would be fine but I try to use "found" and recovered materials as much as I can.

Brilliant!

Got me thinking. Anything telescopic, like a car aerial or a pointer. And the best thing is you get several different thicknesses.

Thank you!

Does it matter what the outside diameter is?

Whats it for, this is important as you will either need to get seemless tube or normal would do,

You may find that on a 4mm sizeing that you will have better luck goign for whats called steam tube which is used for model steam engines as well as the normal industrial applications, as its used in models you will find it at model shops that cater for steam and if not local model engineers supplies,

The problem your gogin to have is that they are useually 4 meter length minimum but with a bit of looking around you may get a 3 metre length if not someone that will let you have a few bits off the end of some of their stock,

4 mm would be about .16 inch, or about 5/32=.156

Brake tubing would be a bad place to start as it bends easily. and it comes in 6mm and 8mm i think. B7Q do a 4mm Aluminum tube thats pretty strong.

Ace Hardware carries most of the K&S product line. Small brass, aluminum, stainless steel stock of almost any shape can be had there for really good prices. I know they at least carry rods, tubes, rectangular tube, and sheet.
