My father passed away last week in a suspicious vehicle accident right down the road from his house. The girlfriend he was living with only gave us a suitcase with four broken pictures and two pairs of socks. We're pretty sure he had a lock box but not for sure where. We got his keys that he had on him and we have two keys that we can not figure out where they go so were curious if one of these might go to a lock box somewhere. Since he lived almost a hundred miles away and we just buried him Friday, we haven't had any luck with all the banks in the area yet. I was hoping someone here might be able to give us an idea of what this key goes to so we can eliminate it. Any help would be great. Thanks

my condolences go out to you and your family for the loss of your father. Personally I haven't seen the key myself but you could compare it to the Ilco catalog of key blanks to see if you can figure out what kind of lock the key goes to. You could also try looking through his bank transactions to find re-curring charges that would be typical of a safety deposit box somewhere.

My condolences to you and your family, I wish the best for you guys. As for the key, it might just be a key to a front door or something. I found what might be the matching brand here, http://www.hardwareandtools.com/icat/wrightproducts. Don't know if they cater to bank safe deposit boxes or anything like that. Hope this helps.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

We're in the process of this as well. The only paper work we have is what was in the truck after the accident. We know my father had burial insurance as well but the girlfriend is fighting us for some reason and won't give us anything that would help us or tell us anything about it. It's really a weird situation.

taking a look at eyes' post leads me to the same conclusion, namely that its to a front door (possibly a neighbors front door). Another possibility is the key goes to a past apartment/house if your father moved recently and forgot to give his key back.

my condolences. a loss is never easy
You can eliminate this as a bank safe deposit box (IMHO). have a search on ebay for safe deposit boxes and you will see the keys are vastly different.
All the best and good luck

Thank you everyone for your kind words.
Your probably right about it not being at a bank but we were also wondering if it might be a post office lock box.

ebay is your friend, due to army surplus these end up on ebay all the time. well in the states. ask a seller for detailed view of the key. make something up about having some you need to add to and making a master key system.

Sorry for your loss. I can't find anything out except that it looks like a screen door lock key. Almost for sure it is not a post office ket.

Wright Security makes storm/screen door locks as well as file cabinets.
Nothing very secure.

DEFINITELY nothing to do with a bank safety deposit box. However, I've seen keys like that used in a lot of fancy ornamental locks. As in fancy things you would see in churches and such. Also, it might fit a fancy padlock.

Generic type and size of key as in its the type used on common cam locks imho,
It could be any of the above suggestions, it could be the window lock key to the tool box key to a money box key found locked in a safe security box,
Is there nothing that can be done via the lawers? if shes being difficult arent you allowed to put somthign on the property etc that says she cant go near it but nor can you until its been sorted out in court,
The worry with this kind of thing is of course the issue of the girlfriend stripping the place, seling it, partying in it till its wrecked, burn it down with belongings etc etc
I find it hard to believe a man of good age only has a pair of socks and a few pictures to his name,
Im sorry for your loss, it gets better once the squabbleing ends (im goign through the same thing myself right now but it was a natural death)
