Where to get pick materials

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Where to get pick materials

Postby Fallgore » 26 Feb 2007 21:39

Hey where would I buy the materials and what's the most 'basic' materials to buy? For instance, I'm currently in an apartment with simple locks (if you were a cop, you could probably kick it down with hard enough force / knowing where to kick the door) but personally I'm just curious as to how to pick the locks without being noticed that it was picked.

I hear that a strong paper clip that's straightened and a few other materials (Not familiar with their names, but they look like things you find in your dad's tool box) are basics but where can I find these materials? Closest place is a Walmart for me

I'm also new but I'm a quick learner, and I tend to play with things and figure it out for myself (although I've taken a look at a few guides).

So well, thanks for all who reply.

The steel inserts that come in Bosch wiper blades are good materials to make both picks and tension wrenches. I do hope that you plan on picking only the locks you own right?

Hmm, so I guess I could find those in a Walmart?

Currently I'll only be picking my own locks, I don't think I'll be picking other locks that aren't mine but I'm considering a career that might involve picking locks. Either way I find it fascinating because I tend to keep forgetting my keys all the time (which is a total pain in the ass).

The only locks you should be picking are locks you don't have a problem with anyone know it's been picked.

Even if you happen to lock yourself out of your apartment, it is not a good idea to pick your way in. You may rent the apartment and have you belongings in it, but the lock, door and building still belongs to apartment complex.

The best thing to do in that situation is to go to the main office and have them let you in.

Until you do get liscensed and become a certified locky, just stick to picking locks you do own. It will keep you out of trouble.

Hehe, not a good idea from what I read to pick my own, but I can always get a key; just a pita waiting for elevator to come up then have to walk down the hill to the guys.

But either way I wanna learn it for my own enjoyment.

It is okay to pick the locks you own, but not locks you rely on. That is why we purchase locks for picking purposes.

Ok, im a bit confused, why is it you want to pick locks so no-one knows youve done it?

You do know that picking leaves marks that jump out and shout 'Ive been picked' dont you?,
