I've got a master lock #410 that I got from work,(we don't use them anymore) and I am having a real hard time picking it. any sugestions would be greatly appreciated! :D

here's the detailes from the masterlock site...

Designed exclusively for Lockout/Tagout applications
Durable, lightweight, non-conductive Xenoy lock body
Customize on-site with permanent, write-on labels
Compliance with OSHA "one employee, one lock, one key" directive
High security, reserved-for-safety cylinder
Key retaining-ensures that padlock is not left unlocked
Keyed different 6-pin tumbler cylinder

here's the link...

It probably uses security pins in them. The 930 I have had spool drivers and serrated bottom pins so I'm sure this lock you have have the same setup.

having a key with different cuts would be very typical of any lock.....
wouldn't make for great security if all keys were the same now would it?

and yeah the 140 has some spools

Just use a C-rake with a medium tension wrench with light-varible tension. If that doesn't work, give the lock some handpick love then use the C-rake...it'll open...it's master lock.

sorry, I must have been dislexic on the day I made this thread because if you check the link in the first post, i'm actually talking about a master #410 and not the 140 although I kept calling it the 140.

my mistake, but I still haven't opened it yet.

thanks for the help though.

They probably uses 2 or maybe three spool drivers and the longer bottom pins are most likely serrated at the top.

I'll keep at it till I know this lock inside and out just like all the rest that I have!!

thanks for the help!

i have a few 410's all keyed differently. slowly but surely have been able to get each one open... i forgot who wrote it but using a c rake and LIGHT tension. also you can use a hook and do single pin then finish it off with a little raking at the end. good luck.

i had opened this lock many times sorry picked this lock many times its my experience but i dont know if you,ll make it or not its the easiest method i had ever used its my own method .

make a hook pick from the safety pin ok then put it inside the lock all the way in from the side where the pins are locate t the end you,ll fell that your pick is stucked thats means you,re going right then just rotate the pick clockwise and the lock will pop open this method needs too much practise now i can open these type of lock even 7 pin lock in just a second trust me but be patient you,ll do it i m sure
