simply repinning a lock or buying a lock with a different pinning can turn an otherwise cakewalk lock into something you can't pick? Not just harder to pick, but one you honestly cannot pick? I have three or four padlocks from the same manufacturer. One of which I can't open, have never opened, the others I can walk through one right after another. Its frustrating to say the least, especially since I'm positive I should be able to pick the bloody thing. Needless to say that's the lock that will actually go on anything I need to secure.

It really all depends on the pinning. If you were to repin a lock with bottom pins that were relatively alike or in a order such as 23456 or vise versa 65432 the pick resistance would almost be null.Also if the lock is on a master system it pick resistance would be reduced.So it really depends on the repinning.

You need to make yourself some slimline picks and learn to pick with light and easy tension. you might have a deep or shallow pin or a spool in there. Im sure its pickable.

Yep, its a nice shallow deep shallow combo. Its part of why I bought the lock, to get more of a challenge. I just didn't expect it to be this hard. I think your also right about spool pin(s) though they don't give me much trouble in the other locks. There is a point where a pin will catch and then I have to let off the tension before it'll go again in the other locks.

Maximum Adjacent Cut Specifications. Basically that rule is there so you don't place something like for example, a 9 pin next to a 1 or 0 pin. This is done so that a key for that lock will not jam and have difficulty operating it. This also make picking much harder if you have such a wide difference between two pins because you have the tendency of over picking an already set 9 pin by accident while trying to set the adjacent 0 pin. Yep. thats definately the problem. MACS, although I bought it that way, I didn't repin it myself. The key's got real wide cuts so it doesn't get stuck, but the difference is definately unusually sharp between the one and two pin and the four and five pin. The key's kind of got this look to it \/MM\/

What pick are you using?

I had one similar that I just finally opened. I had to use a real deep hook to finally get behind the low cut pin without oversetting it. Got trickier when the deep hook started to jamb on the wards when setting the last couple of pins....

The Peterson Gem pick comes in real handy in situations like that.

This same exact thing happened to me! I have two Master lock No. 3's that I can get through in consistently under five seconds, and I just got a #380 (virtually the same) as a gift, and I am having troubles with it. I am trying slimlines next to get a better feel inside the lock

My favorite if anyone doesn't know yet. I can't sing enough praise for this shape. It and a half diamond are all I SPP with. Never needed anything else.

I'm using picks made out of windsheild wiper inserts. My favorite right now is one I've model after the Falle curvy picks. Not a great imitation but I like using the key ways as a fulcrum.
