Double sided lock - Double sided (automatic) pick?

MY QUESTION: 1.Was there a topic like this before (if so -> url, please)?
2. How to make automatic picker to this locks?

I've had some experience with simple houselocks and padlocks (opened about 30 yet ).

I wondered how to make a pick that would open double sided tumbler (pin) lock for double sided key.


Definition form wikipedia: A double-sided key is very similar to a house or car key with the exception that it has two sets of teeth, an upper level standard set of teeth and a lower, less defined set of teeth beside it. This makes the double-sided key's profile and its corresponding lock look very similar to a standard key while making the attempt to pick the lock more difficult.

The easy point about the locks I want to open is the fact, that they lack protruding ledges (the hole or the 'entrance' is straight and wide so that picks can move freely up and down.

I came upon the idea to join two picks in a 'scissors-like' or parallel manner, picking parts directed in the opposite sides. I also thought about attaching this device to a machine working like an electric toothbrush so that picks would move forwards and backwards automatically.

Any comments, suggestions, ideas, plans?

try doing something with an electric knife in theory but on a smaller scale with contoured pcs of metal.

Yeah, I was thinking about one for a cruciform lock too. However, once you get to more than one side, bumping becomes more attractive. This is because where to apply tension becomes an issue.

Your question and your quote from the wiki are two differant things,

The double sided locks are mstly wafer locks and you cant gun them,

The ones your wiki explains have the cuts on the same side but at differant levels, you could make a gun for those if your ingunuity allows but it would seriously need to be over engineered and would be doubtful if it would be reliable,

The best thing to do for the wiki mentioned locks is to simply manipulate one row of pins then the other and alternate between the two,

There are of course easier, cheaper and more reliable methods of opening both types of lock,

Decode which locks it is you want to open and tell us that then we can advise a bit better, we dont need a definition as we know what is what on here

The lock I want to open is from a locker and looks like this:



I'm not sure wether it's three or four picks in the upper and lowert part, but rather three only.

I think I will need a tool like the one presented in the image.
