Hey,

Just thought I'd share - I put up a brief page on how to build a remarkably simple and fairly portable device to listen to what's going on inside a picked lock:

No special electronics skills or equipment necessary. Probably works better than a $500 medical stethoscope. Comments appreciated :-)

Very interesting stuff. You could probably also use an audio amplifier from one of the safe technician's shops. Like the Mad Mike's amplifier. I wonder just how practical this technique would be. Probably faster to just rake a lock or use a pickgun. :?

Maybe the older lockies that are hard of hearing would appreciate this little device.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Been using somethin like this for a few years already.

Tip:
Use piezo with plastic housing, and solder a stiff wire to the piezo panel from the center plastic hole. Use some playdoh tack to hold the housing near the lock, ensuring the wire do not touch anything else , only the barrel of the lock.
The wire will transfer the sound and the housing will give a convenient protection to the piezo.

It could even be used to hear "through" wall, by placing it to a wall and listen to its vibrations.

NLF.

I think youve done well there and although i have alternative equipment i fancy having a go to see how well it works 8)

One very small comment if i may?
It would be nice to see a picture of the finished circuit board, i know they arent always useful but whenever im making someone elses circuit it helps in positioning the components on the board thusly an under side view would be good as well,

But if not no worries its fine as it is and ill let you know how i get on,

Built something like this to use during manipulation, it probably helped during the learning curve but it soon was turned into a guitar preamp.
