Russwin Lock

Quick question.

one of the russwin locks i recieved from Zeke, it was little steel ball bearings are under what i think are the key pins, any ideas what these are for?

my thoughts were that they help with wear on the pins? rolling between the key and the key pins?

Have you completely turned the lock over yet? Some "new" locks are keyed alike for construction workers but after the "new" real key is used the bearings fall into small slots in the housing so the construction team's old key no longer works in the repinned (well, as in minus the bearings) lock. Like a master key's extra pins that would fall out when the new key is used. Just a guess from what I've experienced.

If they're under the key pins, then they are to reduce wear on the locks. Either that or construction keying.

Those are for wear in these locks.

K thought so,

it's the only lock i havn't picked in the lot i ordered from zeke, the bearings give a odd feel and make it a little harder to SPP the lock.

No, that is old school anti-pick security, the ball bearing are assigned a pin value depending which pre system 70 the keyway is. There should be stronger springs in those chambers if it was factory keyed. Steel bearings wear everything faster and the old locks that have seen alot of use are still hard to pick.
