Slighty off the seal topic have any of you read the andy mcnab books ? hes an ex sas soldier and lockpicking is mentioned a few times in his books including making a pickgun from an electric tooth brush. Now bearing in mind he talks about stuff your allowed to know about think what they have now that we dont know about.
Im sure john falle must be involved somewhere along the line and its nice to think that some of the tools im using today were used by the sas and others (MI-5 etc)all those years ago before they were let out to the locksmith trade.
If you havnt read the books they are well worth a read especially bravo 2 zero, boy those guys are hard.

Chances are when you see a tool in a spy movie that inserts into a lock and opens it with no tension tool or messing around with it, it's a key :) And I agree with the earlier post praising the books over the movie

Hell yes!! And the Chris Ryan ones too, but I prefer McNab's style...McNab is like "I screwed up big style there...OK, get over it and move on!", but Ryan wouldn't admit to anything like that ever happening. He's too busy telling you how hard he is (which I don't doubt), but do you really want keep reading it?

Bravo Two Zero is probably one of the best books I have read in a very long time, especially considering that it is true. You do have to wonder though, about how much detail had to be left out, due to the official secrets act.

The One That Got Away, was still a very interesting read, but told a slightly different story. I knew a couple of military guys back in the U.K. who had read both, and some of their quotes regarding Ryan's version would be deleted by the Mods...

I'm pretty sure the pick that he uses is actually HPCs plug spinner.

I haven't seen the movie but only once, but I remember sitting in the theatre making a mental note.

Yeah, looking on HPCworld.com, I believe its HPCs Flip-It that he uses.

When I saw the movie I started laughing because I'd never seen that lock pick before and I assumed it was a key...

I have the Palladin Press book on Lock Pick Guns and there is a chapter devoted to a CIA device which allows a lockpicker to open a lock one handed. It is an electromechanicle pick with a tension wrench built in. I've never seen one outside of the book.

personally this Lock picking method seems to be the best one the military can use since it opens the door after you "picked" it also...

You raised this useless thread for that useless comment? I'm mortified for you.

I have both Identity and Supremacy on DVD. If you can watch the part where he steals the BMW in slow motion or frame by frame, you will see that he uses a an actual key that has been cut and affixed in a chuck of a drill (without the drill of course), and inserts the key and turns, but the cylinder doesn't turn and yet the car starts. :) Movie magic is lovely. :)

The part where he enters the hotel room, he uses the same device but in frame by frame it doesn't show to much detail in the movement due to the camera angle.

The principal behind the tool is based on an Automotive tool which can not be discussed here in the open forums.

Hope that helps.
