Regarding Lever based locks

well i m quite new to da hole lockpicking scenario
saw in a movie n was quiite interested n googling got me here
...
well i m an indian n most of the locks used here in india are lever-based locks
i dunno how do u refer to them as.....
plz let me know ..wat do u call it .thereby helping me embark upon further

These locks are pretty much known as lever locks on this forum. lots more info is available here about them and should get you started on how to manipulate lever locks.

I wish we had more of them in the US. They're so rare, and might be one potential solution to the bumping problem.

That lock needs to be manipulated differantly to the guides you will find on here, i recently wrote a brief description somewhere on what you need to do but instead of trying to find it ill post it again here,

What you have thewre is a differant type of lever lock than we would normally talk about in the uk as a lever lock,

Yours uses a flat key, these will still have square cuts on and turn into the levers to lift them to height and open the lock,

You are gogin to struggle opening this lock with no previous experiance as they are so tight inside,

As some advice you need to look at this a bitdifferantly now and use differant tools as wires arent the best,

You need to consider how to tensionm the lock, this may be doe with a cut down key blank or small wire but remember you need to get on the moving part and tension that, tensioning the keyway will do nothing and should infact just spin around anyway,

Tension the lock and then use a hook pick to lift the levers up, this is gogin to take prtactice and if the locks reasonable will be quite a challenge for you,

If you look at the Falle basic picking set you will see the european kits get some 'lever lock picks' well these are the same sort of thing,. you use them to lift thelevers instead of the normal turning a tool into the levers to lift them,

Now the added problem you have is that the lock also has a curtain,

Im gogin to suggest here that your not gpoign to pick that lock anytime soon and thats not to mean im doing you down because im not, i think i would struggle for a while to pick that lock due to the size limitations,

One last note and this is perhaps the most inportant one,

okay shrub ..i'll make sure i use proper english
as "lockedin" says ...lever based locks are rare in US and as you say....." i hope you are not trying to pick that lock anytiem soon"......
does it mean ..lever based locks are that difficult to pick ??....i tried finding on youtube n google videos ......because lever based locks are vastly and majoly made and used here .

i am currently trying to get through "nekret's" link....and hope yyou can help me with soem video tutorial .......

Lever locks can be easy to pick but only the simple ones, the better they are the harder they are and yes i would say a lot harder than a pintumbler lock,

As regards you picking it i have to tell you the truth in my feelings and that is you wont pick it if you havent previously picked locks and especially lever locks,


The link youve been given is the wrong one for that lock really but will give you the basics of what will simulary be happening in your lock,

I ask you to read the stickies regarding lever locks on the european section, theres Illusions guide then two from myself, you should read all 3 but again im saying you wont pick that lock if your new to the hobby and will struggle even if your not,

Youtube is very very poor regarding lockpicking videos, i do not think they should be allowed for anyone and all to see, you get people (some members from here) who see a video somewhere and ignore the sites wishes for the material to stay there and instead post up the video on places like yourtube, they dont care as long as they get the credit for somthing that they think is cool,
I think these people are scum and i could name a handful of members i know of on here that do it but ill keep tight lips to keep the peace but you know who you are and ive made feelings clear on that before to you,

So you wont find lever picking on youtube because the peoiple who can and do, do it are a bit more mature than that, ive got videos on this site if you look but thats the only ones im aware of that you will get publically, my videos are not to be ripped and posted elsewhere by the way,

Search the site and you will find a lot of info but again i have to say your gogin to struggle, the best thing you may find to do is to drill a hole in the back aiming for the lever slots, this way you can see when your manipulating the right bits to the right amount,

I see that as a difficult lock to pick for the various reasons ive mentioned to the point whereby i fancy a go at it to see if i could do it if at all, its that small and tight with a curtain its goign to be a pig, if it didnt have the curtain it would still be very hard,

But that said go on, prove me wrong, read up and show me you having picked it, it could be so crap that it falls open as soon as you put a tensioner in it but thats the luck of the draw i guess, cheap locks arent great but this one has some good factors to consider and ive not even mentioned the obvious warding youll have to get around with your tool,
