master lock deadbolt.

Postby jimmysmith » 14 Mar 2007 1:29

Well today i went to my local target store becuase I some one mentioned you could get one of those master lever lock padlocks there. ...sure enough I found them... 5 bones a each.
Any way.. thats not what i wanted to ask about.. Has anyone ever seen the master deadbold. made by master lock? Target it seeling master lock dead bolts. I had no idea they got into that.. I was very curious so i opened the box up to see the key bite...wow... blow's my mind.. a 4 pin dead bolt... sure as heck.. the package for a master lock dead colt was $27.00. and all it has is 4 pins..
another wierd thing about this was that it has this option.. on the thumb turner thing {opposite of key side} you could lock the lock like normal. but turning it to the side like normal.. but you could also pull it out and it deactivates any key... all keys including the user key.. nice option..
so.. fro what i make of it.. being a $ pin dead bolt.. it must be crap...but this hole thing about being able to lock out the user key... now thats cool. I wonder.... would it stop a pick attack.....a bump attack... I tell ya if i had the extra dow i would have bought it.. even though that hole 4 pin thing just seems wrong for to many reasons...has any one else seen this lock?
If no one has seen it i will go ahead and pick one up.. so we can see how that thing works... the package advertizments made it sound like it was unbeatable.. but...we will see. ...

I got the Master deadbolt. It is a 5 pin lock, not 4. Basically the inner switch locks the tailpiece so the bolt cannot be turned. Simple design, but effective. It is easy to pick until the switch is pushed. Then picking is impossible because the tailpiece is locked in place. The key will turn the cylinder, but the bolt will not move. I'm gonna play around with it a little more, see what else I can find out.

From what i seen on the key bite it looked like a 4 pin.. But i dont have one to completely take apart and check for sure.. thanks for clearing that up..
so it cant be picked or bump while in that locked and thumb turn pulled out..
I guess thats mot a bad deal..

It has no security pins and uses the KW1 key. For night use it seems to be a great lock. When you are not home is a different story. Without the inside button engaged it's no better than a generic Kwikset.

No way am I buying one of those. What if my wife gets it in her head that she doesn't want me coming back in after a night out? Sleep in the garage? I don't think so.....

by the sounds of it, if its just a latch, slam shut, if you turn the key the oposite way to normal it may also deadlock it, most latches that sound like that can do it,

like the yale pbs1/2 there like the ultimate in nightlatches even BS3621:2004, 8)
