wiper inserts

sorry at ask a stupid question,but where can you buy the windshield wiper blade inserts in bulk? many people on this site display a few dozen pics and tension wrenches at a time. is the only option to but alot of blades or do they pick up stock inserts? i was just wondering this and figured you guys could help, thanks

go to a junkyard, auto repair shop ect... and ask

You should find that from a pair of wiper blades you get 4 strips of tension wrench material. From these 4 strips you should get 5+ wrenches from each, so 20 wrenches all up. 20 wrenches is a lot.

If you are after more, either buy a few more sets of wipers new, or as suggested above goto a auto garage and ask for their old ones that have been replaced during services. If they don't have any on hand see if they will put the aside for you in the future.

As already said: auto parts store. Especially with the rainy part of the year coming up (at least here), people are buying new ones and discarding the old. I went to one store this past weekend and pulled 12 individual wipers (so 24 inserts) from the trash barrels up front.

I ask the local gas station where I buy my gas to save them for me. It got to the point I had to tell them I had enough to last me a while as every time I went in they would hand me half a dozen wiper blades.

At AutoZone you can just buy the refill kit for wipers instead of the whole assembly that costs like $7 to $12 each. Its just the metal inserts and the rubber part. On most wiper blade assemblies you have the option of just changing that part to save money, but most people wont because it can be tedious and take a little more time to do.

It's actually not a terrible thing to have access to too many because there are several different sizes of insert and it's good to have a selection. Less filing if you can start close to the right dimensions.

I also like having multiple sizes of inserts for different picks and torsion wrenches. I like more material for picks like Raimundo's bogota but less for a low-profile feeler pick... to each his own I suppose.
