At work, we're looking into getting a few new service vehicles and it brings me to ask what do you drive/ have in your fleet?

We currently have a couple of Ford/Mazda econovans, a Nissan Navara, a Holden Rodeo and a '06 Misubishi Express van.

By the looks of it, one of the ford/mazda vans are going, as with the navara and the rodeo.

So what are they? Feel free to show pics, if you have any. Also, what type of work are they layed out for? Do you have a base of operations (workshop), or are you standalone and have everything required on board?

I've never even heard of a Nissan Navara, or a holden rodeo. I guess they are only sold in Australia. My shop(and most in the area) uses chevy astro vans, and they have plenty of space.

we have gotten a couple of KIA pregiios, now i know kias arnt the best car, but they have a bit more room than the mitsubishi and ford, are good on deisel and are very comftable to drive.
and best thing about being a Kia is their cheap, with ours there are racks on both sides for stock and tools and there is still plenty of room to fit large doors or a heap of stuff for your jobs, what type of things do you need it for? oh and the Kia can tow a trailer for safe moves aswell

we use savanahs (sp) mostly, not good, not bad, but they do the trick.

I wonder if a Honda Element would be an appropriate sized vehicle for a lockout specialist. Looks pretty cool too. :D

you know what baffles me? why do these vans which are clearly intended for commercial use still have child safety locks in the back?

It's no wonder they are strongly associated with kidnappings.

the rodeo and navara are utes. Suited for small, quick jobs.

Is that just for large safes? The ones we deliver ourselves we put in the actual van.

I drive a Ford Ranger exact same as this :

It just does for me, the cargo area is a little tight when loaded with chop saws and the like. Nearly every lockie I know of uses a covered van, far more practical.
Best van in that class is the Toyota Hiace, get a long wheel base and you can set up a full workshop in the back :-)
They lack in power, the European model is only available in a 2.5 dsl and don't have much poke! But are very reliable.
Prior to getting the Ranger I always had a Hiace and never had any trouble with them.
I got the Ranger cos it has rear seats so I can use it as a car and for work.
Now you know where my handle comes from :-)

I have had 1 tonne safes behind it, but if the ones your delivering are small enough to fit in the van you will have plenty of room

I have used a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 6 years as my mail service vehicle. I removed 1/2 the back seat and built a work table in its place, it was a little crowded but I like my jeep.

We have Chevy Astro vans and Ford E350's right now. Both hold up great and the guys that need more space get the E350's.

As of this year when we upgrade, we will start changing over to teh Dodge Sprinter vans. I believe the Aussie's have a variation from Ford that is basically the same.

^ Mercedes makes the sprinter here in oz, but Ford does make their own transit van here too. They sure mix and match names and dealers all around the world, huh? :shock:

Have always used 1-ton fullsize cargo vans, Ford and Chevy. I often handled the moving of gun vaults and such.

Plus a little extra room never hurt anyone...of course gas prices now just may.
