Is movie style lockpicking a myth?

I'm new here and I haven't bought a set of picks yet. I'm planning on getting the $40 st that was recommended in the FAQ and the practice lock set(are the practice locks worth it). After a few weeks, I'd love to impress friends with my new skills but I think it would be a lot cooler to use a bobby pin to pick a lock like in movies. Is that very difficult or even possible?

Most of what you see in the movies is bogus. I bought a practice lock with my lockpick set a few months ago, but have gotten very little use out of it. I have gotten more use out of locks I've found and bought. They're also cheaper and of better quality than the practice locks.

How about usint that wonderful search button before asking such questions, just incase you arn't the first person to ask it. (I know it is highly unlikely that someone else would think of asking such a complex question, but in the off chance... maybe just maybe you can find an answer....)

quarterback yes you can pick locks with bobby pins..

You can Pick with bobby pins, paper clips, safty pins and anything that can be bent into a style of a pick and tention wrench.

It is harder to pick with those tools.

Even though its a lot of fun its not the best idea to use them, they can break inside your lock more easily then real tools.

There is threads about this all over the board, so do some more searching to lean more of what we have used. If you can't find it try differant keywords, if you still can't find it ask...

i think movie lockpicking is generally off because people in hollywood would prefer to be a bit inaccurate than be accused of teaching kids to commit crimes.


you can use a bobby pin to pick a lock if you really want but it won't be the same way they do it in movies.

Ok a tip for searching

When you type in your key word below that box there are to circle Check boxes. Check the one that says "Search for all terms"
This will give you "bobby pin" only

Make your search short and sweet, leave out words that you don't need.

So just use the word Bobby Pin or paper clip. Like that..
