New material for shim?!

Postby ghostman » 20 Mar 2007 16:43

I was takign out the sort adn i foudn a slim fast can in the barrel. I took it out to see if it woudl work for a shim. The cnas strength itself is super strong. its hard ot crush wiht jsut your hand. Im not sure about the thickness yet. I have a feeling it mightbe too wide but im not definate about this. Once i have time ill cut it open nand se how it is.

ok i tried getting the topof wiht jstu a knife. Its tough! Scissors wont work for this. Strong metal shears area a must. but i think these could be used maybe 5-10 times.

Can you preview your posts befgore posting please,

I thought the slim fast cans were a card board with metal end? if you mean the metal end i think that will be too thick,

Be careful cutting metal with scissors, it leaves a sharp edge that will lop the end of your finger off cleanly if you slip up,

nope these are almost as thin as the soda cans. They are metal cans, almsot like soup cans. You need to hacksaw the top pop top off, and a quick trick to get the bottom part out , is use a can opener. takes the bottom disk off clean leaving no sharp edges on the end or the inside. then jsut cut the cylinder so it can be layed out flat. and then jsut make them like normal. Ill put a how to post up when i have time if you woudl like. htese are the cans http://shopuncleharrys.dukestores.duke.edu/images/spot%20034.jpg

in that vein though, there are several varieties of smooth sided steel beverage cans, that may be ideal. give me a few days and i'll recall what they were.

Not trying to get on your bad side shrub, because you usually have the answer that I have been looking for and you do have great ideas and suggestions, ......BUT.... I have to point out the irony of this statement.....

LOL.. jus thought it was ironic. Made me chuckle.
I hear what you are saying.....that doesn't mean I agree with you....Just that I am nodding my head to placate you and silence your futile attempts to win the argument.

Of course you are right except i do preview my posts and still make mistakes lol,

The op just seemed to be a little tipsy on this occasion shall we say,

I didnt realise the cans were like that having not seen one since a old family member used to have it 20 years ago,

The material i would like to see is a stainless can from somthing that will have the strength to be used a few times,

That said i have a commercial set and other than playing around when i got them and the video i made for here ive never used them, the locks you would want to use them on dont work with them anyway lol
