How old were you all when you started?

Picking is not a question of age. It's a question of sensation and dexterity. As i can see when i do some training i have some young people who have more success than more older peple and vice versa. What is matter too is to understand what you do in the lock.

I started getting interested at about 15, but i never did anything really until I was 16 and found this site. Then I made my first picks and started. After a 3 month break due to broken picks I've started again. I'm 17 now. So I haven't been doing this for very long.

I was given a pick set when I was in my late teens. I never suspected that I would choose locksmithing as a career...

I beginn to pick when i was 22 or 23 but that was just raking and electropick (electropick is not picking for me).
I beginn to pick pin to pin at 26 because i really understood what i have to do in the lock. And since 8 years i can pick lock with anti-picking device.

I am 15. I started about 4 days ago. I have only successfully picked one lock so far, and its really cheap. Takes literally seconds. I made my own picks though.

I first "started" in High School, I think I was 16 or 17. A friend ordered the jacknife set on Southord for me.

I just started now at 15. I only got 2 tools right now, a tension wrench and a pick(don't know what type). I picked my cheap schlage from my back door with those tools. Although Im trying to make bump keys now and getting into picking wafers cuz chucke cheeses has a lot of those;)

You go right ahead and start picking those locks at chucke cheeses.... Just remember later on when you are in a big scary building, don't drop the soap..........................

Oh come on guys, I'm sure he'll turn out allright. Everybody know's Chucke Cheeses is a secret government spy training camp. If he picks those locks he might be the next James Bond. Of course he'd have to dodge the laser guns on the other side of those locks...

I think I was about 22 or 23, but I started off pretty slow from lack of knowledge and tools. In those days (before internet) it was pretty hard to find out about picks etc. I remember I got a bit of a boost after I bought some TAB books on locksmithing, think there was Roper and Robinson, and they have a reasonable amount about tools and techniques. Making a grinding wheel also helped, after that it was easy to make my own lockpicks. Seems like a long time ago now!
