electric pick

had some spare time so had a go at the shrub electric pic
used a b q type screw drive look simler.ive made it simler but used different arm due to having the matials to hand. how ever having made different arm .I'm now wondering is it vibrating at the same speed or is slower.im sure some on good at maths can tell me ? on the shrub arm he as plced a bearing on the arm i have reduced the hole in my bearing with an eccentric bush and the bearing is attached to the moter. rather than the arm. the bearings out side diameter is about 20mm. it seems to havea decent up and down movement but is it as fast? as i assume faster is better

when you assume.....

think what you significant other might say about that.....

faster isn't always better... the strength and speed will depend on the lock

We need a picture or two to be honest,

Which screwdriver conversion have you tried? the ixo one or the old one?

Faster isnt better and can be worse, its the snap and amount of movement that matters,

I cant understand what youve done properly but it reads like youve put the ball race on the motor??? that wouldnt even let the pick work :?

You HAVE to have the ball race on the arm,

The sizes of the old conversion were accurite on all the bearings and it needs to be that if your copying that but if youve done that and thrown the gearbox away and instead used the direct motor then good lad, thats what should be done as the first older conversion wasnt on the mark to be honest,

Get a picture up, tell me the real sizes of each conponent and then i can work it out for you and advise,

As it is were peeing in the wind as we dont know what youve done propely,

yes shrub its the inox new one . yes the ballrace is on the moter shaft .what i did was to cut. say a small round rod 7mm out side diameter ie the arm of a ballvalve drill a 2mm hole eccentric put this on the moter shaft then put the ball race over the eccentric rod which when spins moves the rod up and down the rod is shaped to fit the ball race its the same as yours except my ball race is on the moter there seems to be good moment of the rod end :? may be 3mm? yes chucked the gear box.not yet mounted the pick end so not sure if its good.but never used the real thing so its trial and error  no camera yet so any idea :? your definitely on the right track

propely,

Ok i know what you mean now but it took a while to visulise it lol

Youve got the same arrangement as i have but have put the ball race on the cam of the motor instead of the arm,

If you have used the same size bearing you have effectively reduced the movement by somthing like 3,

If there is no limit on the movemnet the tip of the pick blade will move around 15mm,

I think you really do need to put the bearing on the arm as the cam on the motor needs to be the 6mm really instead of your 20mm (i think),

I dont think the power would have been changed for the worse, maybe upped a ittle but the stroke distance will be affected to the tools detriment,

What have you used for a spring? you know that the upward stroke is by the spring power and thats what flicks the pins not the movement of the cam moveing the arm,

If you would like to put us some pics up there are a few ways,
If you have a photo phone you can send the pictures to your photobucket account and then post them up on site,

You can scan the tool if youve got a flat bed scanner, do it in a dark room,

You can borrow a mates camera,

Or lastly you can have a go at drawing it on paint and then posting that up,

But i think i know what you mean and dont think its good enough to be honest but would love to see some pics one way or another,

Try and see, let us know how it goes,
