Agreed that carry-on is the way to go, but I do hate those people that take their huge suitcases as carry-ons and use up the entire 4 person overhead compartment for their stuff (anyone seen the ad with the guy trying to fit a cooler in the overhead, then accidentally pours the whole thing out on the poor guy sitting under it?)

Anyway, back on topic -

I will give my TSA lock another go after fashioning some new tools, as standard and slimline picks are quite hard to fit in there with a normal tension wrench.

I have also called up a place with lockers that people always seem to leave locks on and they invariably get cut off (good news for me, bad news for them )

All the flights i go on have size limits for hand luggage, you have to pack carefully but its very possable,

well i know a few things about the way that tsa here in america deals with these locks... if it is convenient for them, they will use their universal keys to open them, if not they will cut them off, search your bag and then either put the cut lock in the trash or in the bag and you will get a nice little leaflet saying that they searched your bag. the real purpose that your lock could have would be deterring the measly luggage handlers from searching your bag and taking anything of value, due to the fact the airlines have little or no liability over your luggage.
