Security Pins

Postby Jello » 24 Mar 2007 7:10

Right i'm at uni and i often find myself locking myself out of my flat because i've left my keys in my room ( gone to pick up the mail outside our door and the like) and have had to buzz my flat mates. Since most of them DON'T get up at the same time as me, this hasn't left a whole lot of them happy

My uni is pretty high end in the apartment area. I can pick the locks in the neighbouring apartment building, but not my own.

I compared the keys and the only difference i've noticed is that on the flat of the key (i'm not sure on terminology; if you're looking at it side on it'd be the side opposite the one with the bolt combination) there's a little bump at the end. Is this what i've heard of referred to as a security pin?

If so, how should i go about picking it?

Welcome everybody,
For all thoes new to the site and lockpicking, LP101 is a great place to start.
Take a look at the new users section, first and don't be afraid to ask any questions just remember to try a search before posting. Cause everyone should HYSF as well as there Pick-fu.

If you're looking for locks to pick, buy some but, DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE RELY ON
I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).
Keep it legal.
Cheers,

Firstly to answer part of your question,

No thats not a security pin,

Right now for the second part,

You should not be picking the locks you have been picking and you should not be attempting to pick the locks you are wanting to pick,

You should not pick locks you rely on or that are not owned by you, both these go against the ethics of our sport,

You are picking locks that do not belong to you and locks which are in use, i also assume although i dont know your state laws, that you are also breaking the law by doing this as they are not your locks and tampering with them is wrong,

We will not tell you how to pick the lock you want to because its probably a high security lock but mainly because we dont teach people how to pick locks that are not theirs or are in use,

Thankyou for looking up the site, we hope you stick around and have fun, try to read up on all the stickies and then search for any answers you want after that before posting,
