What would be a hard pin combo for me to pick on a Kwikset?

How would I best key a kiwkset deadblot so it would be hard for me to pick.. (ie. tall pins at the back, or front?) I have made a couple picks and have been able to do this lock in 1-2 min, with differant pin configurations.

You can add standard schlage spools with cuts lik 17261 that i guess would make it a fair bit better, the problem is there machined so poor the tollerences are your problem more than the pinning buy an assa :twisted:

Thanks for the reply. I'll look at getting some better locks. I have a Master Lock #3 That I use too, it's diffucalt for me to pick pin by pin but I can rake it ok..

Don't go from a kwikpick to an ASSA! I wouldn't even bother repinning a kwikset for a challenge. It would be much more fun to pick up a Schlage, and pick that. Rim/mortice cylinders are cheap on ebay.

If you're currently short on spool pins, you can put shorter pins directly behind larger pins. The idea is that you'll have to set the shorter pin (further back) without pushing up so far on the longer pin that it passes shear and blocks the cylinder from turning. I hope that's clear enough.

Thanks Thats what I was looking for.. Ill be getting some better locks once I make some better picks.

No problem. As Chucklz said, you'll get on much better with a Schlage. My first practice lock was a Kwikset. I could pick it and repin it then pick it again over and over. I didn't really learn anything until I got my first Schlage though. It seems to me that you can actually feel more with a Schlage, and that helped my visualization more than anything else.

I have picked several Schlage locks and after a long time not being able to get them I found they require very light tension. Keep it in mind if you go from a Kwikset to a Schlage.

I'll be looking for new locks tomarrow.. I was able to pick this setup in under 5 min...
This masterlock #3 is still troublesom.. I think this the tourk and my crapy tools...
