Unbreakable: Are you using bullnose MDF for your board material? Does it hold together well?

(I am using regular MDF, and the holes I drilled for the cylinders tend to wear away and become larger rather quickly, causing them to fall out easily.)

What are everyone's favorite lockboard materials?

It's there for show and for picking for the more daring folks at cons. I've not had the time to start working more advanced locks yet, maby some day I'll get time to make some proper tools and resolve that.

Believe it or not the Medeco is mounted correctly. It's from an IBM RS/6000 and that is how they are oriented on the front panel of the system. Technically the early model RS/6000's where designed by a company named Bull from France, that could explain the "Euro style" orientation.

Ahh the old Medecos on IBMs. Brings back memories of being a kid and my first computer with VGA graphics!

Well if you ever resolve that issue I'd suggest that you contact Abloy, as they are very interested to see someone picking their lock and of course the tool. I believe that yes they can be picked with some funky tool but it could take very much time. But better drop this issue for now as Abloy is considered high security lock (correct me if I'm wrong) and thus discussion of picking it is reserved to the advanced sections.

But yeah, it is very good to have those "impossible" locks to show people :)

There is nothing wrong with revealing that you intend to learn how to pick high security looks, or that you are thinking about making tools to do it. However, you shouldn't discuss/post pictures of the tools you make in the public area.

For example.
I have an Abloy Classic cam lock which I beleive would be a relatively easy(for abloy) pick, once I make a tool to do it. (I have reasons for beleiving that this ONE single lock will be much easier than most other abloys). Now that I'm back to picking, I have ideas on how to build the tools I need, and the particular skills I will need to build those tools. It would be okay for me to ask for advice on things like silver soldering (and there is already an excellent document on that here) in the open forums, but it would be inappropriate for me to describe the design or operation of the tool.

abloy

Postby raimundo » 28 Mar 2007 12:35

i had this abloy key and an abloy lock that it didn't fit, but the key was cut deep on most of the places, so i found that putting it in the lock and turning it back and forth, in diminishing degrees of turn, I was moving the discs forward and back and droppin them off where ever they hung on something,
I sent the lock to DB and never heard of it again, He tried that with the key and just decided it wasn't anything to follow up on, but I think it mayhave suggested a type of picking, its not all clear in my mind yet but I think its a lead on a type of picking technique. Im still working with that concept, (means that once or twice a month I think about it and what to do next to try to improve on the idea, got some parts from a member that will be part of the experiment. thanks g man.
