Borescope advice

Postby Wolfe » 26 Mar 2007 20:22

I've been getting into safes for the last year or so. the only drilling ive done is when the lock was busted or unreadable. The drilling i do is purly destructive to recover the lock.

I have a mechanic friend selling a 18" pv618 with a .23 diameter. Its a good price that hes selling it for and ive been intrested in purchasing one for a while now.My question is for the safe techs and or hobbiests that know borescopes.
Is the diameter being so small good or bad, is being 18" going to be to big of a problem, Is it being flexable more hassle than its worth? so on and so forth.

I really know nothing about borescopes and cant seem to find to much information about them. So any help from you ol timers would be greatly appreciated.
thx in advance

i have three of them and i love them in fact i want more. if the price is ok with you buy it but theres tons of them for sale on the internet.the three i have are rigid scopes from 2mm to 1/4 in diameter.the lockmasters one has a camera and tv but ive set it up once with all the extras but i have drilled about twenty or so safe so far and the borascope makes the job but your gonna have to learn other stuff that i cant discuss in open forum. theres alot more than drilling a hole and sticking your scope in .

the diameter is areound the same as the one i use and 18" will be fine, the flexable ones are really good, I dont like the ridged ones, but as long as it is at a good price you should buy it because if you are going to be doing more safe work you will need it one day and it can save you hours of work

I've never done any safe work, but I have a few points from observations, and from looking at borescopes myself

1.) The smaller the diameter, the smaller the hole you have to drill
2.)For rigid scopes I've seen both scopes that "look" straight ahead, and those that look at 90 degrees. Both have their uses

From the point of view of someone who works with a variety of optics all day (biologist. microscopes etc.) Try looking through the scope at some small dark place with a few objects that you know. Is the lightsource on the scope adjustable/ bright enough for you to see? How is the quality of what you see? It doesn't matter how cheap you can get the scope for if the image quality is too poor for your purposes.

your first scope should be a 90 or steal of a price.
