When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

How to Make Lock Picking Tools - Video

Hey all,

I've just created a new "how-to" video for making your own lock picking tools. I posted it to metacafe, so you can view it by going here:

How to Make Lock Picking Tools

I know there are a few other videos out there that explain this process, but I think this one will be helpful, as it's short and to the point. I hope you all find it helpful. Share it with whomever you'd like. Enjoy!

Nice, very nice! That was one of the best "how to make your own picks" instruction I have seen. I never knew you could imprint the pick outline onto the metal with an iron. Great work. :D
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

That "print to a pick" technique is quite effective and when you are making picks it is not so fatal if the print doesn't adhere to the blade from all the spots. Actually you could only prin the picks outlines and that way you can save toner from your laser printer :)

I have used the same method to make printed circuit boards. Making a pick with the method is easy but try to get flawless picture of 0.15mm trace on a circuit board with the technique :?

I might add that THE most important thing in transferring the print to the blade is that cleaning phase. If the blade is not clean enough and smooth, the print won't adhere.

All in all, I'd give a 10 points from 10 for the video :) Nice job.

Nice tutorial, though you might want to stress more on the importance of quenching while grinding, so the picks won't be too britle.

Also, after finishing, some extra sanding with 150-600 grit sanding paper gives better feedback from your picks.

haha I like how some people posted coments like 'omg you're giving leet tools to criminals now they can break into my home' hahaha. If they knew anything about burglary they'd know most people aren't going to try to pick your locks to break in.. most thefts occur due to an unlocked door, if not that, they'll smash their way in.. there's no time for tedious things like picking a lock if you're trying to pull a heist..

oh and that reminds me, I was watching 'it takes a theif' the other day, and they gave this girl a keybox (versus hiding her keys underneath her welcome mat or whatever) and the uber-secure protection of said keybox was obtained using a MASTER 140!! UGH..

I was thinking about making a thread for my videos to.

but since he already did :evil:I will put a link here. LINK

p.s. I use the same toner transfer method in my video and in the best of my knowledge my video was up before yours, oh well interesting :|

Nice video, although I highly suspect that you don't have the permission to use those musics in the video, so it is a copyright infringement

And there is a certain *cough* "reputation" *cough* towards YouCrap, so next time use PhotoBucket or similar ;)

GENERAL ADVICE! As I have seen that in many videos nobody brings the issue up front, I'd like to share a little warning on grinding metals: If you suspect or you know that the grinder has been used to grind aluminium in the past, please clean it up outside and inside and also the workspace. If aluminium has been grinded and you go and grind your hacksaw blades or anything ferrous, there is a very high risk of thermite reaction. Thermite reaction happens for example between finely grinded aluminium and ferrous oxide metal (as in rust). Thermite is a compound that ignited (from a grindering sparks for example) burns a few thousands of degrees in temperature and melts any metal in contact with it!

From Google I once found an article from a newspaper, that told of an accident like this. There was a son who had grinded twelve aluminium pop rivets and his dad, unaware of that, started to grind something ferrous metal. Couple of minutes after starting there was a bright flash and a half a meter wide fireball/sparkshower engaged. The father had eye protection, so his eyes were saved but arms, T-shirt, hair, moustache, and face suffered from burns.

So, remember your protection always and clean out your equipment and workspace and remember that nasty thermite runaway reaction while grinding :)
