I attended this course feb last year . If you know nothing about the auto locksmith business, then i think its exellent value for money. Its very basic and mike will try to teach you the ground rules/ do`s & donts about the auto lock business. Some people will say its a dated course and there are better courses about, but for me , it was exactly what i needed at that time. Big down side of the course was he didnt take us out on the piss & if you like your grub, then smuggle in a yorky or 2, tight bastard gave us school packed lunches.

The AD100 is a great piece of kit, there are cheaper machines out there but beaware of the coverage they do,

The AD100 is sold by SKS limited and at the moment they have it on offer at £4000 i think and thats the full software package version that youve been qutoed £6k for,

Listen and take note of what a trainer suggests but never do as they say instantly, always ask around and get extra advice on alternitives etc,

If you are not wanting to program keys from the car for example but want to copy them then the ad100 is a waste of time and you just need a cloner for example,

as shrub said, if you just want to copy keys get something like the RW4, but if you have to make keys without an original the AD-100 is really good, I use one for work alot and it is definatly worth the money.
with the price you where quoted I wold guess that is the AD-100 with the basic car models on it, I know my boss spends alot of money to buy the additional programmes for newer cars so if you decide you want one think about what cars you will mostly be doing and only buy what you need.
some cars are hard to do the first time but after you have done it it gets alot easier.
I know here in australia you can hire the AD-100 so if you cant afford to but it straight out or its not worth it this might be an option to look at

The AD100 can be bought from various places but will always be the same price you will never find it discounted, if the price is different it is a different software pakage.
Go on your course when you get back vist Advanced Diagnostics web site where you will find all the infomation you require and list of distibutors.

Your getting ahead of your self before you start worring about programming keys you need to be able to get the vehicles open and make a key for them, the MB course will teach you this.

Key numbers can be obtained from main dealers inorder to cut a key to code via chassis number.

Another option is the MVP same as ad100 but is cheaper to buy and comes fully loaded.Down side is it uses tokens.I have both machines ad100 pro for popular cars and MVP for the rest. The ad100 has been replaced by the ad100 pro. Talk to Hickley Valtone to see if they have any deals on at the moment. As for key blanks non transponder you could spend 300 pounds on blanks. As for a good range of transponder blanks you will be spending close to 1000 pounds.

SKS are offering the AD100 on a cheaper option or at least when i asked 3 weeks ago i was told they were selling the full kit for £4500 ish,

Lunchbox, the £6k price tag is the full version with all software, this is around $12k your money so how does that compare to your prices?

Newsparkling sell the ad100 under their own badge, problem is they copied an ad100 to make it even down to the point of having the logo on the circuit board
Its a very cheap option but when you come to update advanced diagnostics can see 10000 units with the same serial numbers trying to connect lol

£300 worth of keys for stock?? lol never more like £3000, transponder keys arent cheap hence why you charge so much,

I dont like the token systems myself but they do suit a lot of people, SKS hire them out or even do a finance deal,

SKS are best spoken to on the phone, they dont have a website as far as i know or at least its always under construction,

Yes you can go to a car with a ready made key, i do it for the pugeots and mostly get away with the number plate only,

We are tolerating this thread here as its so useful for others as well as yourself it would be nice to keep it here so lets keep all other vehicle discussion away from the thread,

I didnt know the ad was updated maybe sks are selling the old one off until they get rid of stock,

Yeah, I didn't want to interrupt any relevant discussion with my inanity, but I have very much enjoyed reading this thread. Seeing real locksmiths at discussion is always a little more exciting for me than it probably should be. :P

So you havent done the course yet?

If not and please dont take this the wrong way but dont ask anymore,

Do your course and get 100% from it without knowing any bad habbits or conflicting advice, im sure you dont have to buy the ad100 to do the course (surely?) so do that when you know more about it,

As regards what keys to stock? well i could say get 30 of every Peugeot blank but then again i do all the lock work for my local dealer so get through loads of them where as you wont,

I suggest getting the popular vehicles covered by a few of each key to start with then within a week or so you will know which ones are the most common and then as time progresses you will find the others that are used commonly or not, at least have a couple of every key as you never know whats gogin to turn up,

On the sks thing, let me clear it up hopefully once and for all,

I didnt know a new version had come out,

I rang sks a few weeks ago as im buying an ad100 as the machines ive had before have all messd up in some way or not done what i want, now im just buying the full thing and be done with it,

I know sks arent the best prices on such things but thought AD had pretty much price fixed their products with all their suppliers,

I was shocked when they said they are currently doing the full system normally £5995 +vat at £4500 +vat while stocks last (or a price very close to it),

I assume that now i know there is a new one out sks must have a few units on the shelf and are now selling off these ready for the new one,

This is what sks do in my experiance as ive had a few items off them in the past that were very cheap only because a new model had come out,

As i say do your course first and see what its all about, you will then be better informed of what to do and also you wont be picking up advice here that goes against somthing they may tell you, its best to get that advice after the course,
You may decide afterwards that you only want to do openings and an ad100 isnt what you need,

Somthing you may not have thought about is that you also need a few key machines, you could do with a tibbe machine, a laser machine and a normal machine for normal wafer locks, all this builds up cost,

If you are fully going into cars you need to fully go into it but not all at once feet first, the programmers are the last thing you get after doing all the basics first, youve also got a lot of practiceing before you go out even opening cars,
