Just came home from a visit to a local locksmith. They told me that i need a special license just to buy security pins. Its even illegal to import them to Sweden.
My question is, is it possible to receive licenses like these without actually becoming a professional locksmith? Are there any individual courses that grant licenses and any lock-interested person can take?

That doesn't make any sense at all...
I would guess that your locksmith just wants you to buy all your lock gear from him/her and is willing to try and scare you into being a customer. I would never go to that person for anything, ever...
It's a shame to see someone in an honor based business who has none...
I could be completely wrong; however...

I concurr, it sounds like a load of rubbish to me, i dont know the laws in your country but theres no other law like it anywhere else as far as im aware (that said i dont know the laws there either lol),
Some lockies just spend all day long talking out their backside and dont want anyone to know how to pick locks and cry over the thought of sites like this, seems like you found one,
You should have asked him whats to stop you buying a lock with security pins in it? is that ilegal or does it only become ilegal once the pins are out the lock?
It sounds more like a case of security pins damage his drill bits so wouldnt like you to be putting them in locks he may have to open one day,
What lock you trying to pin?

Well all kinds basically. Just made some practise locks out of cheap copies i bought in thailand.
And yes, i got the impression that they were full of shit. Iv been there before and nothing they said made sence. I asked what they did with the left-overs from locks they cut out of doors etc. and the told me that they LEFT the parts they didnt need.
Im gonna try with a different locksmith today. Hopefully ill get better results. Sweden has some wierd laws, but comon, security pins?

Ive never understood the dirty gits that leave their rubbish at the customers house,
Lock wrappers, old locks, wood shavings etc etc most of them dont even know what a dustpan and brush is,
Personally i have a hoover and brush and shovel, the place in 99% of cases is cleaner than when i got there after ive gone,
Saying your doing a few locks is a bit wide range for me, they will need specific sized pins to work properly or else you will find them easier to pick than with the correct pins in,
If you want to learn spools get a lock with them in and try that, putting pins in locks that they werent designed for is a waste of time really, its like al those who repin kwiksets with spools etc to learn, it doesnt help one bit imho,
