Im not stopping you asking questions i just suggest we keep auto entry techniques out of the thread,
As regards me suggesting you hold off on the questions about stock and the machine etc is purley because your getting 100 differant opinions here and i dont think your trainer will be very happy if you start correcting him or suggesting other things that youve heard of on here,
I also see little point in doing a course if your gogin to ask all your questions here and take the answers,
It wasnt a warning nor request i merely suggested it for your own good,
Personally i cant all day long and often in my sleep about cars and car entry etc so you go ahead by all means,
Ps, you wont be qualified to do squat after that course as there is no official qualifaction in this country so if you get a certificate, city and guilds sheet or any such like stick it on your wall by all means of the proof of your course but its not got any meaning to anyone else in this country,
You misunderstood my intentions but i hope ive explained it a bit better now,
If you want to carry on asking whatever you want within the confines of the site rules then go ahead, i can tell you everything and more that you will be told on that course but is that really what you want to do and then go and pay to hear it all again?

Mick runs a very very good basic course, with only 1 day of the week spent on auto entry as this is all it needs to give you the methods required.
Most of his course is aimed at the slightly more difficult area of dismantling these locks ,decode them, stripping down , fault recognition and rebuilding them.
he also covers the basics of programming , the basics of key cutting and cutting to code.
for someone wanting to start out as an auto lockie it is a good basic grounding , it wont make you an auto lockie but it will set the foundations to help you on the way, some of the fault problems he covers that will get you out of trouble is valuable info as this is hard to simulate on the bench, and the manual is a handy resource too.
Mick swears by ad100, other options exist that are cheaper, the OBD system and the silca system to name a few, both having better software on some elements than ad100 and worse than others, the OBD system ( £2395 al inc) does everything that the ad100 as well as ad100, new vauxhall and vw pin extraction better than ad100, but AD100 is still the only programmer that can deal with the programming of fords rolling codes fitted to all models after 2002 , which is a big plus indeed.
Many go for the OBD system for all models and the AD100 MVP pay as you go system to deal with the new fords as buying both these systems still works out cheaper than the AD100 full system.
Listen to mike , take what you need from the course as its still probably the best basic novice course available at present.

shrub, I am pritty sure my boss has paid way over $35,000 au for our ad-100, but he does get every update as its realeased and he did buy it when they first came out and they have gone down abit since we have had it, i will ask him on monday when im back at work what the total is he spent on it

lockey 1963,thnx for all those tips,as shrub has said,i rush too much,i geuss when i think of the first job,it scares me a bit!!how wasyour first job? most def.will go for ad100 pro,,hopefully i will get all the necessary experience in the field.mstoddard im in hampshire,

Before you head off to see Mick visit your new best friend the Scrap car man.See if you can get a Ford tibbe ignition and door lock, peugeot door lock and vauxhall ignition.It will give you a chance to work on your own locks that you can then take home with you.Micks course is great for giving you the basics.The week you arrive home travel out to scrap yard and practice what you have learnt.

no not all of them are, and when something comes out for a new car we have to buy the new cable for it, and then the software for instacode every year so we can cut the keys

Sorry i was just gogin off the actual free updates, leads etc arent of course free and instacode is a differant thing altogether,
I had an OBD system but it blew up on the first car i plugged it into so sent it back and got a refund,
I then hired an ad100 out for a week but it wasnt eccomical at the time so didnt keep it,
Ive tried the new silca one but it wouldnt recconise the second ecu on the pugs so sent it back,
Im now lookng at an ad100 full system but if the obd is a differant one or they have improved on it i would like another as i did like the look of it,
OBD stands for OnBoard Diagnostics and its the name given to the system on the car,
As such there are loads and loads of systems that are called an OBD system but most are simply a box you plug into one of the popular cars like the audi and vw for example, these units are very cheap but ive little knowledge of how well they work,
Lockey1963, i cant find the link youve posted in the past for the OBD system you use, could you repost it here please as i would like to look into it again,

The reason that the price goes up and you will never stop paying for these diagnostic machines is every year or so vehicle manufactures bring out new systems.
The companies that produce these after market programming devices must then produce new software in order to communicate with these new systems (example Ford vehicles post 2002 cost of software pakage £800.00) once you have purchased a software package if they make any improvements to that package (updates) there is no charge.
This is why they have now launched a pay as you go machine, the inital cost is low and all software and any future software and of course updates are free, you simply pay every time you programme a key.
This option sounds cheap but as always there is a catch, if it takes you 6 attempts to programme a key you pay 6 times.
Vehicle manufactures do not like loosing money more and more of them are taking steps to cut out after market key programmers using different methods such as the logic in keys being pre matched to vehicles via vin number.
They also bring out new systems in order to get the security code to commuincate with the vehicle, there dealers can not retrive this code they attach there diagnostic machine to the vehicle and the internet, the code then comes directly from the manufactures web site.
The after market machines have had some sucess in combating this particular system but this means you must also connect to the internet normally via your mobile phone whilst programming a key, but there are no guarantees that it will work 100%.
You can attend a vehicle open it, make a key then find you can not programme.
Basicly car programming is a mine field, you will never stop paying and no matter how much you pay you will never be able to guarantee results.
SKS will not be selling the AD100 cheaper than anyone one else it is always the same price, they are just pushing a different package.
This product is not sold like locks where you buy something and keep it in your warehouse.
They sell a particular package of software then order it from AD, all the tester units will be blank then software loaded onto them depending on the customers requirements.
