I am sure many mods will respond to your post but my answer is I pick locks because I enjoy doing it. I also enjoy making my own lockpicks and lockpicking is one of the cheaper hobbys I have. Lockpicking happens to be a small part of my job at a used car lot. I open cars that the keys are locked in, replace damaged car ignition locks and so on.

what are u gonna pick??
Locks not in use.

Pick locks not in use. Buy cheap ones, pick them. (or expensive, high security ones... medeco, anyone?)
in most places even carrying around any picking tools is against the law
Are you a cop? In most places, picks are not illegal. It's the possession with intent to cause a crime that gets you in hot water. Are you saying that locksmiths are breaking the law? I'm an apprentice locksmith, but I also pick locks as a hobby and to increase my skills for work. Am I breaking the law?
So why even learn??
To improve manual dexterity. For a challenge. to enhance mechanical and analytical thinking.

ok. if u buy all this crap and learn all this crap...
You're in the right frame of mind to learn, arn't ya? You sound like you've made up your mind?

my 5c. (Read: my opinion) Australia doesn't have 2c coins anymore... And at least the dick (Yes, IMO he is one) didn't post in all capitals...

Roasting time.
*warms up the BBQ...

So why even learn??

Cur Non (Why not)? Have you ever been curious? Have you ever wanted knowledge for the simple pleasure of having? Not to mention that you can safely and legally practice lock picking within the comfort of your home.

and also in most places even carrying around any picking tools is against the law.

You might want to check the law on that. And I mean actually read something, not just go on hearsay and opinion. We have a thread here with excellent bits of actual law from a large number of states and provinces in a wide assortment of countries.

if u buy all this crap and learn all this crap what are u gonna pick?? i know this is a "hobby" but really what the heck are u gonna do with this information? just parade around saying "i can pick a lock!!!"

Well, I think the answer to your question must be obvious even to you. With knowledge and tools for lockpicking, we the members of lp101, intend to... pick locks. We pick locks we own. Many of us own more locks than are just installed on our doors. These are the locks we pick. We seek to improve our skills and understanding of lock technology through picking in much the same way that those regrettable few people who wish to improve their vocabulary and command of a language own and read books. And just like with bibliophiles, many of us here gain some degree of pleasure in the owning and collecting of various locks and keys. There exists a simple pleasure in knowing. Knowing how to pick locks is a rather specialized and somewhat obscure branch of knowledge. Few people know how to do this, so the knowledge is all the more precious by the virtue of its rarity, and some may dare say exclusivity. Part of what we do here is to remove some of the barrier of exclusivity and guild secrecy for those who truly wish to learn. Teaching others is yet another form of enjoyment in this, and many other, hobbies.

If you come to learn, we welcome you with open arms (and locks). In these pages you will find the collected wisdom of hundreds of people with countless years of experience earned through trial and error, and occasionally success. If you come to troll, please crawl back to your bridge. You will find very few here willing to tolerate such infantile absurdity.

I'm a professional locksmith - I get paid to pick locks.

I have years of experience in the trade, but I'm here to further expand my knowledge and therefore my earning ability. I'm not like a lot of locksmiths who look down on hobbiests - rather I find that dedicated hobbiests are often more talented than paid pros.

An april fools joke is a joke, simple as that,

What the op here has done is simply show us what a total looser they are,

Ive very little time for such braind dead arseoles so im not even gogin to bother to address the little kid,

I assume this thread is here to wind the good people of the site up so to stop the immature fun the op must be having with himself (as his mother must be out for the morning) i will lock it up,
