Postby poky13 » 3 Apr 2007 11:50

Hi guys
I Got some ASSA cylinders from my son in law, They are all seven pin and no security pins, they are keyed for master keys. How many of you have had luck with them? I have Bumped a few of them but can't seem to pick any. Some are round & some are oblong. I have some pictures of them but done know how to send them.

If they are master keyed they will be quite easy to pick especially if they have no spool pins although i thought they should have,

If you are just starting out and dont really know what your doing have a look at my www button and then on my signiture picture, both links will take you to a lot of useful stuff for begineers,

Ah ok its hard to know how much someone knows sometimes lol

Hmm, does the pin come along the bottom of the keyway and have a point on the end and the key has a hole down the edge?

Or is it a pin in the side near the bottom of the keyway?

Have you tried pressing it in until the plug turns a bit and then try picking the lock?

There is a guide on site on how to put pictures up but basically open an account at photobucket.com (its free) and then upload your pictures to that, once youve done that click on the IMG link and it will copy it, then in your post click your right mouse button and select paste,

Make sure you make your album private so only the linked to picture can be seen

Where in the world are you?

The only ASSA I have seen was a KIK. It had INSANE spring pressure, which made too difficult to pick. Plus it had a bunch of finger pins, which doesn't help.

I took apart a ruko oval cylinder last week and it had all 5 spools. They were like standard top pins in shape but with two or even three thin 'rings' cut into them, rather than looking like typical yale spools.

Nasty!

This cylinders I have are older ones. They have the plain keyway, no side pins like the new one have. But I tuck one a part today and it had top pins with points, so some of them have security pins. I also raked open one today with a snake. I'm still got alot to learn Thanks guys. :D

It appears to me to be the SCD lock with all of the security pins removed. Are the pin holes in the plug counter bored? What I mean is, can you look into the holes and see a ring that is machined wider than the standard pin holes? This lock should be so full of security pins that it is not even funny. Check out Han Fey's cutaway article on Toool's site for a cutaway view of this lock and how it should be pinned. If it is in fact the 7 pin scd, it is a real shame someone would ruin the lock by putting in sub par universal pins and not using proper Assa pins for the lock.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

I have about 9 or 10 of both the round ones and the ablong ones. Like some one said these have long springs. The one round one in the picture has the pointed upper pins, these cam out of a retirement home they replaced all the locks.
