There are many issues but yes as said basically you can break them,
More importantly you can wear them out or even cause an intermittant problem that doesnt show up when you leave it but may fail in x number of hours, days or months and cause issues there,
The best example i use to hit it home is that youve played with your mates lock (glad i spelt that right

) and leave it working to the best of your knowledge (an inexperianced picker will not see signs of a lock not working correctly if its a small issue for example a stiff key may be ignored by a noob but not a pro), imagine then that your mate is a sleep one night and is woken by a blazing fire in his appartment, he struggles through the flames and smoke to get to the door but cant open it,
When the fire team are picking up your charred mate to put him in the bag they cant understand why he just stood at the door but didnt get out, its on your concience because it was you messing with the lock that caused the lock to fail when it was most needed causeing your mates death,
Harsh i know but maybe it shows how bad the consequenses could get just because you didnt want to spend a few dollars on a practice cylinder,
