Trying to make my own picks! (using hacksaw blades)

Postby Timmy321 » 17 May 2004 20:45

okay here is my question:

I bought a pack of 4 hacksaw blades...my question is how long should each segment be? it's a 12" long blade..so 3, 4" segments??? how long should I go? like in the pyro video he does 3..but I don't know if his blade was 12" or not...

how long should each one be???

yep, but he does mention that breaking them into thirds is sufficient. my picks are about 12 cm long uh. that's uh...dang, don't have inches on my ruler uh.. about 9/5 inches...

If this helps, my proffesional picks are about 6 inches long.

yes I caught that part..he did say that breaking into thirds...but what I'm trying to find out is; are his blades 12" that he uses...that's what mine are...12cm is pretty close to 4.5 inchs...and for me to divide these = it'd be 3 segments of 4 inches...

Those might be a bit too small.

don't make 'em too short, they've got to be comfortable to hold.

probably wouldn't go any shorter than that - I guess for a good guide, take a pen and hold it normaly - measure the distance between where you are holding it between your thumb and fingers and the V connecting your thumb and first finger. if you make the handle that long (perhaps a bit longer) and then add a tang about the same length, that should be just about right.

I'm thinking a 1.5 - 2 inch handle will work fine for me...how long does the shaft have to be???

Just so it can get to the back of all locks but with a bit of excess for manoverability :D
The best lock pick is C4 followed by a sledge Hammer
