making molds of lock chambers

I have been picking for about 6 months now, and became inetersted in general bypass methods.

I read somewhere online that duplicate keys can be made by taking a mold of the inside of a lock. I know that making a mold of the key itself is possible, but is taking a mold of the inside of a lock possible?

I'm with you. I don't see any way to do this. Even if you could cast plaster into a lock and have it cure, you'd never remove it intact due to the crevices and internal shape of the cylinder. Supposing even if you could do that, there's one problem: you've just cast all the pins in their relaxed positions.

There are plasticine (plastercine for your brits) impression methods that will work on certain locks, and certainly on an obsolete style of lock. However, this isn't information for the general area, and besides what is the fun of casting a key when you can pick.
