German Locks, which picks?

Postby gamba66 » 12 Apr 2007 3:27

Hello, Im from germany and here we have alot of those "profile zylinders".

Basicly the keyways are extremely small and have edges or round profile which makes them very hard to pick! Is it even possible to pick locks such as a BAB, Zeiss Ikon or EVVA? If yes with which pickset? I am from germany so ill probably get my picks from multipick... Are these slimline picks aswell in their set of "profi-line" ?

Link

Or is this majestic set better for them?

Link

Another question is, what if one of these locks has sidebars, are they pickable, can they be bumpkeyed? Im just curious because I have a Zeiss Ikon lock with sidebars on my door!

Thanks

Get slimline or europrofile picks

not likely bumped

but everything can be picked

SO Slimline = MP Profi-line

And yes, most of the nasty profiles can still be picked.
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

Yes they are slimeline.
But if you are going to pick high security locks with for example sidebars i would suggest you to look after some better Picks.
I have this Southord picks and experienced that they bend sometimes. They are very good if you are just trying to pick some padlocks or cheap cilinders but for more secure locks better spend a bit more money on your picks.

I would suggest you to look on www.lockpicks.com . I am from Germany too and i noticed that they are sometimes cheaper even with the high shipping costs.
!! But you have to wait about 3 weeks and give the near by "Zoll" a reason why you need picks. !! In my case it was very easy to convince them and I saved about 70€.

Well, should I get one of the Southord Slimline sets or get a HPC - Pickset 2000 with 16 picks?

Besides those picksets there isnt a great choice!

Who is "Zoll" is that popo or gov.? Maby german locky?

As for the picks someone just said the Southord(SO) bend, but I have heard good things about em both. If your just starting out I would go for price-variety/quantity to get started than ge some top$$ sets when ur sure u want to spend the money.

Zoll is customs. But there's no need to give them a reason. There are no legal restrictions on owning, buying, selling and carrying lockpicks in Germany. All you need to do is pay the import fees.
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

Mate, the only way you pick high security locks is knowledge.

Even if you have a good set opening anylock is like pissin in the wind without knowldge.

Also All i have are SO, and if you look at my picture sof my pics there thinned beyond belief, so i would say the fair just fine.

If you know jack about locks or fab'ing tools buy a slim line set. If you have a certain lock thats wardign is paracentric of special function, ect. Just buy normal picks and shape them as desired.

Its always better opening 100$ locks with a 2 cent piece of a wiper insert.

Gamba66, you don't need them all.
SO and HPC picks available in MPSD don't differ much (0.50 or 0.51mm thin).
And you can buy them individually, too.
You can just buy 5 hooks (4 from SO and 1 from HPC) and a good TW.
But I still have a question for LockNewbie21.
Would you be so nice and clarify once more?
Assuming that one wants to pick Abus, Evva, Ikkon, WinkHaus and maybe other Euro-cylinders with "nice" shape:
Is it really necessary to thin down SO or HPC 0.50mm thick picks with emery paper?
Or maybe those tools are pretty good and it would be much clever just to sit down and practice instead of wondering if my pick is to thick? :?
Thank you in advance for your answer!

Don't worry.
If customs decides that you should maybe pay import duty (Zoll + Einfuhrumsatzsteuer), they will tell the postal service.
Then the postal service will collect that money when delivering.
Or they will give you a letter telling you that you have to go to the customs office and pick the package up yourself. They do the latter if they don't understand what's in the package.

Cheers,
mh
