When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I am looking for a new pick set. I don't have a professional one, but have many (attempted) home made ones. The thing is, I want one that Is not that loosable. What I mean is, whenever I have made my home brews, even with a case, they still manage to get lost. I was thinking about a jacknife from southord, but since supposedly they don't give good feedback I was going to get the "featherweight" with the plastic handle that is supposed to be better for that. What do you think?

I think coming up with a better organizational system is a better option than a jacknife. However, a lot of people like to have one around (or something like it) as a back up, so really no harm in picking one up. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I doubt you'll gain much with the featherweight one, but I recommend you buy it and write us up a review when it arrives.

I bought one of them for one of my co workers as a b-day present and I played with it and its great,I have seen alot of bad reviews on them but you have to understand you cant use it like your primary tool that you do everything with, its just something to keep in your toolbox or keychain just incase. The only negative thing I can think of is that one from southord comes with stainless picks and not spring steel and the hook needs to be replaced after alot of use,but as far as opening crappy master locks and kwiksets they are handy...see if you can get one from the outletpage on southord tho and save money since itll get scratched up on a keychain anyhow.

Im actually at work right now and southord is blocked from our computers so I cant go double check about the spring steel picks for them but ive actually considered getting one for myself and if I found one with spring steel I certainly would, btw I never used or seen the more expensive metal handle one but the plastic one is pretty good and I would compare its quality and weight to a small gerber knife about that size(not the picks just the actually jacknife) and they sell replacements for the picks.

i would recommend also getting a broken key extractor attachment for it as it would be more useful than like a double ball or one of the barely used attachments on it

I use my double ball more than I use my broken key extractor, but I guess if the situation calls for it, go for it. If you don't want to lose your picks, put them on a keyring, that is, if they have holes in them. If not, you could drill some. I do kind of want a jacknife though, It looks pretty nice, but it's not a top priority of mine. There was someone who actually made a jacknife. It's in the homebrew hall of fame. It looked very nice.

I was thinking of maybe something like that, but my homemades suck, or are too thin to be put ona keyring.
also, I really think it is time to start practicing with professional picks, since I'm not that good.
What about this: http://www.lockpicktools.com/lockpicks.htm I was thinking about the concealable kit. It looks like it will have much better feedback, and it is harder to lose individual picks.

BTW, what I meant by the picks being so easily lost is that because they are separate i lose individual ones, never the whole set.

get a case!
end of problem. You can make one (plenty of threads on that) or buy one (southord cases work just fine)
