EAR 975 Padlock lever query ?

Postby cybus » 16 Apr 2007 7:50

Does anyone have a cut away photo of this padlock so I can get an idea what the levers look like ? I have bought a pick set for this type of padlock and am having alittle trouble with it, a visual insight would be a great help.

I got this link from the web It is an ERA 975 five lever Insurance Close Shackle padlock.

http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/aca ... locks.html

I will learn how to post photos soon. Thanks.

It's easy to make a cutaway with these. Just get yourself a Dremel and a carbide cutter bit and start grinding holes into the front plate. Be careful to only grind away the plate, not the things under it. And stay clear of the rivets and the keyway.
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

You have to decide what you want the cut away for,

If its picking practice the most simplest way is to simply drill a hole through the case where the stump resides when the lock is in its lock position, this will allow you to see the levers and stump and know if they are being lifted high enough or not,

The other way is if you want to see the whole workings of the locmk for example to show how a lever lock works, this is done as said by simply replceing the lock cover with a clear perspex cover,

Thanks guys, I recken i'm going to have to kill this lock to see whats going on inside. I will take a Dremel to it soon, and post some photos if they're not to bad.
Perhaps this might then prove usefull to some other person in the future to save killing any more ERA 975's

Shubs posted about 8 or 9 picks of the inside of a similar lock. no need to kill it. although theres nothing works better than getting ur hands on the actual parts.

agreed read shrubbers posts on lever locks

try your local secondhand shops/boot sales etc....
you'll find these sort of locks get an old one and
put a clear plate on it.

save the era for picking

No need to kill it, just cut a few windows in the front. If you're careful it will still work.
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.
