Hey the names kimset, im new just introducing myself. I have zero experience with lockpicking and its one thing i would love to learn. Now I dont know how to make a safe, non damaging pick so i was wondering - could you make a lockpick from 1-3 paper clips and/or a bobby pin? that be sweet, comments and help appreciated. Thanks!

lol. shrub can be a bit direct, as he answers and deals with many many posts. ugg, and a lot of trash too.

do read up on that guide, but do know, that people HAVE been able to pick locks with paperclips, and bobby pins, etc. it just isnt convenient for a hobby picker to use said tools. if you like this hobby, then get, or make real tools, if you are just trying to learn how to pick to open one lock, then we probably wont be able to help you. if you want to learn for learnings sake, if you get locked out. well, go with number one still.

there is a guide, i think it was stickied, it was by sams choice, and it is about paperclip lockpicks. however, any of our members will STRONGLY suggest otherwise.

personally, i started with a bobby pin, and the back end of a pen clip. it works, but it isnt reliable, or comfortable. read around, youll get it sooner or later.

Picking locks with safety pins and bobby pins is fun... HOWEVER.. it's a miserable way to learn to pick locks. Stick with good tools when you're learning. It will make a world of difference. :)

Cheers,

In the beginning of this hobby you can get away with using hair pins and safety pins on easy padlocks like a Master No. 3. Thats how I started. But as you progress further into this hobby, the locks will get increasingly harder to pick with such flimsy tools which will eventually break or fail in some way.

If you have some shop tools available, it is fairly easy to make decent lock picks for little or no cost (dependent on finding supplies, of course). Do some searches on the forum; if you live in a city, watch the curbside for street-sweeper bristles, they look like a flat metal noodle, are quite springy, and make for excellent free picks with a little elbow grease.

From my (limited) experiance of picking using peices of metal, springs paperclips and a screwdriver, things are oftern very difficult. The tools oftern bend, and ease of insertion and withdrawl can be difficult, some of the smaller sets really arnt very expensive. All that said im still intending to learn to use alternative equipment as a chalenge just not primerily.
