Pins have to turn to line up properly with the groves on the plug of the lock, which is pretty cool when you realize that in order to hit a sheer line, the pin must already be turned, unlike Medecos, where you can get a sheer, then do your turning.
(if that last sentence isn't acceptable in the general forum, I'd certainly understand and would appreciate it if a mod would strike it)
Great locks, too bad they're not around anymore :\

if it doesn't have the grooves in the bottom of the key, then we've been had.

Oh, it has the grooves, and the interlocking pins.
But the body of the locks says corbin and the cores say emhart...
I should have pics a bit later(sorry, lots o' homework).

Why in the world did they stop making the Emhart cylinders in the first place?

I agree. This system seems like a slight improvement of the medeco system. Ill put it on my to-buy list so i can examine it for myself.

That's an urban legend, actually.
And it's a large on the medeco design.
That said? Tolerances are pretty sloppy.

oh you so beat me to it, I have a bag of those pins. I'll bring them this weekend for your inspection. =)
and some medeco cam lock pins which have the round holes in them for the sidebar to go in (the no shear line style medeco lock)
and I impressioned my first lock, and ilco wafer, totally rad, the key works flawlessly.
word.

I was surprised when my locksmith showed me his Emhart pinning kit and told me he still services them in my area.

Maybe this bump key scare will help bring it back.

They never stopped making Emharts
A few months ago, I bid on an Emhart cutaway kit, but I let it go at $150 (foolish) because I was buying a new drumset a couple of days later.

Hey yeah, I remember that auction. I bid on that thing too but I gave up on it after it hit like $100 or something. Wasn't worth it since I was planning on expanding my high security lock collection anyways. Didn't wanna blow it all on one item.
