Peterson Just Picks -- discontinued?

I just noticed that Peterson's Just Picks aren't on their website any longer (they used to be available with both the blue plastic and black rubber handles). The only "Just Picks" set that I see up there now is the slender gem set. I was just wondering because I have the Just Picks with the rubber handles and have been thinking about trying out the plastic set.

The closest equivalent I see now is The City set, which also has the rubber handles, and a different type of metal used on the picks themselves.

I believe the picks in the old Just Picks sets were spring steel? My rubber handle set has with where the pick material itself is black.

Did they recently change over to using a different type of metal or something? Does anyone know of a distributor that will sell individual Peterson picks to hobbyists?

Just a bit confused and trying to sort this all out

yeah, I've noticed that too. They used to sell it on lockpicks.com but they've removed them about two or three months ago. I bought mines from them so I'm glad I got them before they stopped carrying them. Don't know why they decided to discontinue them. But Peterson still sells each pick individually on their site so I don't think it'll be much of a problem for those of us who still want just the picks.

Luckily I got another set of "just picks" right before the big price increase. I wouldn't be surprized if they released some new sets instead.

Yep i think i had one of the last few sets . they disappeared from petersons site. then lockpickshop.com and disappeared from lockpicks.com the day after i got the set.

I have herd whispers that they are releasing a few more standard picks so i wouldn't be surprised if it was back in a couple of months in a bigger set.

You can order direct and individually. it doesn't come in much over the original cost but Peterson will bend u over a barrel on delivery costs.

I'm interested in knowing what the difference between the old sets and the metal being used now.

Like I said, I have a set of the old Just Picks with the black metal material... but I have never, ever had a problem with them. I hope this was a change for the better and not a change to cut costs...

Does Peterson sell directly to hobbyists? I've never tried -- I've just been using lockpicks.com for all my Peterson neeeds because they are physically much closer to me / shipping ends up being very cheap.[/u]

I ordered something from Peterson directly just a few weeks ago without a problem. Never sent me an e-mail or phone call to ask about my credentials to purchase pick tools at all. Maybe it's because before I sent for the order I asked them by e-mail if they would sell to me because I was a FB student. They said they would if I could prove my enrollment or diploma. They never asked for them.

You need nothing to buy from Peterson. Just call or order online and they will ship it. As stated before at times stuff arrives quickly and at times you forget you ordered anything until it shows up one day.

If your about buying picks, and they still have the set you like in the slimline, why not get it. Slim line is something your gonna have to go for sooner or later anyway, I think that you could do very well with them, especially if you sand off the square edges.

THe peterson slimlines are not like traditional slimlines. They are the same profile as their standard picks but instead of about a .024" thickness they are around .015" thickness. Personally I do not really care for the picks all that well but they have come in handy a couple times.

The only time I ever use the Peterson slimlines is when I'm picking locks with akward key ways like a Best lock. Other than that, I feel that their slimline picks are just too thin for normal use so I rarely ever take them out.
