Isn't there also plastic dip that you can buy somewhere like Menards that you can dip tools (pick handles) in? Just wondering, thought it might be easier and give good results.

yeah, "tooldip" or "plastidip" are two trade names.

different hand feel between the materials. you can thin out the dips but you'll get a less durable coating.

liquid latex from your local theatrical supply company (or quality smut shoppe) will also do something similar, but requires some surface prep to be resiliant and the ammonia as a solvent can affect some metals. (as well as be an issue if youre' a latex allergy.

the silicone self adhering tapes also provide reasonable feedback.

This is a very good idea. I just got a new set and this is exactly what i need. Where do i buy the heat shrink ?

hehe, i use the exact same shrink tube from lowes, but i use 1/2"

I also get get it from the flea market, same shrink tube for a dollar a yard or whatever. Its real cheap. Black Blue Green Red Yellow...and some others.
