I was also wondering how to legally own lockpicks without becoming a certified locksmith.

you cant

not to turn this thread into a flame war, but what about the states that don't have locksmith certification?

also, can you point us to the law that states what you just said?

all the states/ territories have locksmithing certification and it is a "restricted" trade, i have been told that it is illigal to have the tools unless you are a locksmith, but from each state/ territory the law does vary a bit, if you look through this thread it has links for what states has what laws

well, as far as I'm aware there's no compulsory certification in QLD and I'm pretty sure that's also the case in most other states. this was the case a few years ago when I did quite a bit of investigation into the matter prior to starting this hobby and to my knowledge nothing has changed.

Also apart from the NT and ACT I've never seen a law that states that owning locksmith tools is illegal if you're not certified as a locksmith.

Perhaps some research would be in order before making generalisations?

Been only about 19 years since that first post - any groups or events/meet ups for Sydney?

So many clubs seem to have shut down or gone quiet - trying to find any events or groups in the area of Sydney - doesnt have to be the east, city or inner west is fine also.
